SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2002

Penguin Computing Inc., the leader in world-class Linux hardware, software, and service, announced today the immediate availability of its next generation Intel(R)-based Relion class 1U server.

The new Relion 1X server is targeted for general-purpose server customers and features the absolute latest in Pentium(R) 4 architecture. Anchored by the Intel(R) 845 Chipset, the Relion 1X leverages a speedy 533MHz front side bus, up to 2.8GHz processor speeds with the superior price/performance ratio of up to 2.0GB of open-standard PC2100 DDR RAM. In addition, the dual redundant 10/100 Ethernet interfaces on the motherboard can be teamed for maximum network connectivity without consuming the available PCI slot. "Never before has a server with this type of power and flexibility been available in such an economical package," said Sam Ockman, CEO for Penguin Computing. "The Relion 1X is available in a basic configuration for only $1199 and therefore is perfectly suited for single-task server structures."

In addition to the general-purpose Linux server market, Penguin Computing is also positioning the Relion 1X to satisfy its wide array of solutions partners. "We have a strong customer base of specialty-task providers that leverage our Linux hardware and software expertise to deliver complete solutions to their clients," said Cub Karabian, Director of Product Marketing for Penguin Computing. Using a unique and highly flexible manufacturing infrastructure approach, Penguin Computing can design custom Linux server and workstation systems to suit the needs of companies who require much more than just a piece of hardware. "We can load our customers' intellectual property onto Penguin customized hardware, brand that solution along with its packaging and deliver it to individual end-user sites anywhere on the globe," said Mr. Karabian.

The Rotech Systems Group, which provides the IT network infrastructure for Rotech Healthcare's more than 650 participant medical locations, has taken full advantage of Penguin Computing's customization services, including tailored hardware, software and geographic deployment. Mathew Pike, Senior Web Services Engineer says, "We chose Penguin Computing to provide our Rotech Linux Router solution due to their extensive Linux expertise with specific hardware customization, and their dynamic infrastructure that can continually deliver a product that Rotech is proud to deploy to its end users all across North America." Karabian adds, "the Relion 1X is the next generation platform for this exact type of highly sophisticated customer with its exceptional price to performance ratio and enhanced feature set."
