BOXBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2002

NEC Solutions (America), Inc., a leading provider of business solutions and services for the high-end commercial and professional markets in North America, announced today that EMC Corporation has qualified NEC's line of Windows/ Intel-based fault tolerant servers with EMC's CLARiiON(R) and Symmetrix(R) enterprise-class information storage systems.

Both the servers from NEC Solutions and the storage systems from EMC are rated as high availability systems, designed to provide uninterrupted application availability in corporate settings where continuous network availability is required.

"Interoperability testing of high availability, fault tolerant storage and server technology dramatically simplifies implementations for midrange and enterprise customers," said Terry Richardson, vice president of reseller sales for EMC. "The E-Lab qualification of NEC's Windows/Intel-based fault tolerant servers with EMC storage systems is an important step in providing customers with the highest level of application availability."

EMC's E-Lab Tested qualification process assures customers of the highest level of interoperability through a series of exhaustive performance and reliability tests that ensure the interoperability of all components that make up a multi-vendor information storage network.

"Partners deploying enterprise storage solutions need servers that their customers can count on to provide high availability of applications," said Ray Fischer, vice president and general manager of Networked Storage Services for Avnet Hall-Mark, a value-added distributor of enterprise technologies from leading manufacturers. "By certifying NEC servers to run with EMC's CLARiiON and Symmetrix systems, NEC has provided partners with a high-performance balanced solution that will help them expand into new markets."

The Express5800/320La from NEC Solutions America provides users with Continuous Availability, which means the server is designed to prevent interruption of service, data loss and data corruption in the event of a hardware failure or maintenance servicing. The system is also uniquely designed for easy implementation, as it requires only typical hardware or software configuration and supports standard Microsoft(R) Windows(R) applications. These features can help dramatically minimize IT staff training requirements and enable the use of commercially available software, which helps reduce total cost of ownership.

CLARiiON and Symmetrix Storage Systems from EMC

Delivering up to 70TB of storage in a single system, EMC's Symmetrix(R) family offers performance, connectivity, and functionality for the largest consolidation and application requirements in the enterprise. EMC's CLARiiON systems are designed from the ground up to provide the best support for multi-vendor server consolidation. Simplicity of operation, high availability, scalability, top performance and a broad range of networking and connectivity options make EMC's CLARiiON systems the industry's highest performance solution for consolidating in Windows, UNIX, and other environments.
