SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2002
For the first time in its 21-year history, the 550-member International Association of Gaming Attorneys (IAGA) has gone outside Nevada and New Jersey gaming jurisdictions for its leadership.
Chicago, Illinois (USA), lawyer Donna B. More was elected today to lead the organization's ongoing effort to promote industry-regulatory dialogue and legal education. More, 44, was the first Chief Legal Counsel for the Illinois Gaming Board and is now president of More Law Group, P.C. An authority on gaming compliance, she serves on compliance committees of major corporations and is a frequent speaker and author on the subject.
Outgoing IAGA President Ray Pike told IAGA members gathered here for their 2002 Annual Conference that More would widen the group's perspective in a year of challenges for the industry and the association.
"Donna has succeeded as a prosecutor, a regulator, an educator and an advocate for the industry," he said. "She knows the law, the rules and the economics, and she knows how to apply them with integrity. The times clearly call for her kind of leadership."
In her acceptance speech, More said that the unique brand of communication that IAGA facilitates between industry and government has never been more important.
"As our industry grows to more and more jurisdictions," she said, "IAGA must remain a center for the kind of constructive dialogue that produces a legal foundation for financial growth and an ethical framework for public confidence.
More also asserted that the industry's financial and geographic growth creates a new sense of urgency and relevance for IAGA's role as a legal educator. "Colleagues new to our industry - on both sides of the proverbial desk - will rely on us to help them master a complex, argumentative and often politicized area of legal practice.
"The education challenge is a matter of quantity and quality. We have to find ways to be of service to a lot more lawyers and yet retain the quality of the learning," she said.
More, president and managing partner of More Law Group in Chicago, represents national and international casino owners, operators and suppliers in numerous gaming jurisdictions. She counsels clients on acquisitions, licensure, regulatory compliance and administration. Other practice areas include white-collar criminal defense and employment contract negotiation for coaches in the National Football League.
Prior to opening her own firm in 2000, More developed the gaming practice at Freeborn & Peters, a large Chicago law firm where she was an equity partner. From 1990 to 1994, More served as Chief Legal Counsel to the then newly formed Illinois Gaming Board.
A 1983 graduate of Georgetown University Law School in Washington, DC, More prosecuted criminal cases as an Assistant in the Cook County State's Attorney's office from 1984 to 1989 and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois until late 1990. From 1991 to 1998, she was adjunct professor at Kent College of Law in Chicago.
More is a member of the Board of Directors of two Fortune 1000 companies: Mandalay Resort Group in Las Vegas and WMS Industries in Waukegan, IL.
The International Association of Gaming Attorneys "IAGA" is a Nevada nonprofit professional corporation dedicated to the development of gaming law and the education of its members. Formed in 1981, IAGA maintains its office in Las Vegas, Nevada. IAGA's efforts to bring value to its membership is presently directed through the publication of The Gaming Lawyer, occasional announcements and mailings, and each year hosts an international gaming law conference. It's web site is www.theIAGA.org.
