NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 2002

ChevronTexaco Management Institute Will Provide Training for

Urban League Leaders

Twenty-four National Urban League affiliate CEOs from throughout the U.S. will gather today in San Ramon, Calif., for the ChevronTexaco Management Institute-National Urban League (CTMI-NUL), a customized leadership training program provided in partnership with ChevronTexaco.

CTMI-NUL is an intensive three-and-a-half day program of world-class leadership and management skills training which the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management will conduct. Four leading management consultants, Frances Hesselbein, Juana Bordas, Dr. Karen Y. Wilson-Starks and Nadir Muwwakkil will serve as faculty for CTMI-NUL.

The goal of CTMI-NUL will be to equip National Urban League (NUL) leaders with the expertise needed to build and sustain high performance organizations. The program consists of formalized leadership training using learning modules, strategic plan development, as well as personal feedback sessions.

"Together with ChevronTexaco, we have created an alliance to develop, strengthen, assess and promote excellence, as we secure the organizational vitality and viability of the Urban League movement," said Hugh Price, President and CEO of the National Urban League. "We are grateful to ChevronTexaco for its support of our future growth."

ChevronTexaco is providing three customized CTMI-NUL programs as part of NUL's "Comprehensive Leadership Development Initiative." The first successful Institute was held in New York in June 2001 and the current session is the second program. A third program is planned for 2003. Since its inception in 1996, CTMI has trained more than 140 nonprofit leaders from national and international locations.

"All organizations, including the National Urban League, need strong leadership to flourish and succeed," said John Bethancourt, Vice President of Human Resources of ChevronTexaco. "We believe that investing to strengthen community leaders, we strengthen our local communities."

As a continuation of the leadership initiative, ChevronTexaco is also helping to expand the NUL's Whitney M. Young, Jr. Center for Urban Leadership, by creating additional curriculum and ongoing professional development programs for affiliate senior managers in the areas of financial management, governance, strategic planning, marketing, fundraising and organizational development.
