BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2002
Hong Kong's mobile network operators have taken the first steps toward the realization of the mobile office, says the Yankee Group in a new Report, "New Beginnings for Mobile Office Solutions in Hong Kong." The technology research and consulting company says although awareness of mobile office solutions is still low, the road ahead for mobile operators is wide open.
"Hong Kong's mobile operators have a window of opportunity to define their mobile data strategies in the run-up to 3G, and more important, to execute," says Shiv Putcha, Wireless/Mobile Asia-Pacific analyst. "On the consumer front, they have positioned themselves by introducing interoperator SMS, and enhanced roaming and international SMS options. On the enterprise front, the first skirmishes will be over making the mobile office a reality."
The report contains recommendations for all stakeholders invested in making the mobile office a reality including mobile operators, solution vendors, and end users. For example, the Report suggests Hong Kong's mobile operators focus on offering low-cost solutions that clearly outline business benefits for the enterprise segment. They should also introduce feature-packed, affordable devices, the Yankee Group, advises, and offer roaming and other functionality to drive adoption by enterprises.
In the Report, the Yankee Group looks closely at the current offerings of mobile operators in Hong Kong and taps Hutchison as the likely winner in the mobile office sweepstakes if the company streamlines its pricing model.
