Opsware Inc (Nasdaq:OPSW), formerly Loudcloud Inc, the leading provider of IT automation software for server and application management, today announced the Multimaster Service Automation Module (SAM), an extension to the Opsware System 3 automation software that enables corporations and government agencies to automate the management of applications across multiple data centers and create cost-effective global disaster recovery solutions.

With the growing complexity of today's computing environments, the task of managing servers and applications and maintaining a disaster recovery environment has become increasingly costly. The Opsware System's Service Automation Modules (SAMs) simplify the management of these systems by automating tasks such as large-scale server provisioning, application and content distribution and automated asset tracking. With the introduction of the Multimaster SAM, the Opsware System now provides IT organizations with automated global management and disaster recovery capabilities. The Multimaster SAM automatically synchronizes the know how -- including software, configuration settings, and other knowledge required to reconstruct a server -- across multiple data centers located anywhere. This comprehensive replication of information enables an IT organization to more rapidly rebuild an entire server and application environment in back-up facilities in the case of an emergency. IT organizations can also leverage the Multimaster SAM to distribute a global application simultaneously from a single console using virtualization capabilities.
"The Multimaster SAM is a huge technological leap forward in IT's battle to achieve global consistency," said Tim Howes, CTO and Executive Vice President of Development for Opsware Inc. "Now Opsware System 3 enables enterprises to share knowledge globally and manage applications and infrastructure seamlessly across data centers and geographies. These features enable disaster recovery, lower costs, and a higher quality of IT systems."
The Multimaster SAM, due to be released this fall as part of a new version of Opsware code-named Babbage, provides customers with:
-- Complete Geographic Redundancy: In the event servers and applications fail in the primary data center facility, the Multimaster SAM enables the immediate recreation of the environment -- including applications, configuration settings, installation order, and other information required to rebuild any particular server or application -- in a peer data center by leveraging its environment replication capabilities. -- Geographically Transparent Management: With the Multimaster SAM, an IT administrator can simultaneously control servers and applications in multiple locations, without worrying about where they are physically located. With its virtualization capabilities, Multimaster can also enforce changes to applications and systems throughout a global environment, from a single user interface. -- Global Operations Consistency: The Multimaster SAM enables IT organizations to leverage software, best practices and knowledge across multiple locations, ensuring operations consistency not only in one facility, but also across the entire, global enterprise - eliminating errors typically caused by operations inconsistencies seen in geographically dispersed environment
Opsware Inc's Opsware automation software simplifies the lifecycle management of servers and business applications. Opsware captures best practices and software operations knowledge that simplify the management of dispersed heterogeneous environments to lower operational costs and improve service quality. The Opsware System enables IT organizations to quickly provision, deploy, change and manage their complex server environments in a standardized, best-practice manner. With Opsware, customers gain the advantage of more consistent, accurate operations across large-scale systems. Opsware customers include enterprises, government agencies and service providers who utilize Opsware automation to improve operations quality and reduce operations costs.
