ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 2002
Nation's Largest Community College District Lowers Costs, Gains Information And Speeds Processes Through Installation of SAP(R) R/3(R)
SAP Systems Integration America (SAP SI) today announced that it has helped the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) successfully launch a complete suite of SAP(R) financial software to improve the district's business operations by reducing paperwork, streamlining processes, and delivering new information and reports.
SAP SI provided consulting and recommended best practices that enabled the district to go live with SAP in July, as scheduled and under budget.
LACCD will achieve lower operational costs, better access to information and faster procurement and payment processes through SAP software. The nation's largest community college district, which serves nine colleges and 130,000 students, previously relied on a variety of outdated technology from the 1960s and 1970s.
SAP SI installed SAP R/3(R) version 4.6C, including financial applications for accounts payable/receivable and cost center accounting, asset management, funds management, project systems and materials management. In addition, SAP SI helped the district adopt the SAP Industry Solution for Public Sector (ISPS) to take advantage of extended functionality customized specifically for businesses in the public sector.
"We are pleased to have worked with LACCD to complete this phase of the SAP implementation. The tools implemented will enable the district to dramatically improve its business processes," said Jim Buckler, director of Public Sector Higher Education for SAP SI America. "By creating greater access to information and decentralizing the district's business processes, we have provided access to more timely and accurate information for college decision-makers."
LACCD selected SAP SI as its implementation partner last year due to the company's strong public-sector experience and prior installations at the University of Nebraska, the University of Mississippi and other universities.
"We are committed to delivering a high-quality education to thousands of Southern Californians, and we knew that SAP SI's experience with higher education and the public sector would benefit our district employees and students," said Peter Landsberger, senior vice chancellor for the Los Angeles Community College District. "With the implementation of SAP, the District has taken a major step forward. We've begun to leave our outmoded systems behind; we're realizing immediate benefits from the strength and versatility of the new systems; and SAP's superb technology gives us a solid foundation on which to build new functionality for years to come."
