IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2002
New Alliance Will Deliver Enterprise-Wide Wireless Mobile Video, Voice
and Data Communications
NEC America, Inc. (NEC) has announced that it has reached a memorandum of understanding with San Francisco-based TABLETmedia, Inc. to integrate the company's software client into its line of IP Telephony platforms, enabling businesses to deliver enterprise voice, video and data communications to wireless hand-held devices and PDAs running the Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 operating system.
"This strategic alliance with TABLETmedia is an important step in NEC's continuing effort to empower enterprises through converged multi-media IP terminals," said Mike Rosen, general manager, NEC's Marketing and Sales Support Division. "Our combined resources provide solutions that are designed to deliver the tangible benefits most associated with converged communications, including vastly improved efficiency, greater productivity and reduced management costs. And, most importantly, these solutions are delivered in an open environment to the mobile user."
As a result, NEC's IP Telephony platforms, such as the NEAX(R) 2400 IPX and the NEAX 2000 IPS, will be able to deliver voice, video and data communications to a quickly expanding group of hand-held devices and PDAs from a wide variety of manufacturers. In addition, this solution has the unique capability to provide both voice and video over the IP wired/wireless network, enabling mobile workers such as security staff to access critical information through multiple media.
"We are very pleased that NEC has selected our company's software client for their already successful array of converged business communications systems," said Alessandro Gatti, president of TABLETmedia, Inc. "We are confident that our joint effort will result in top notch wireless mobility applications that will enable enterprises to greatly improve communications and reduce costs at the same time."
A leader in delivering practical converged communications solutions to enterprises, NEC provides a wide array of IP PBXs, IP telephones, Internet appliances and applications that offer fully reliable and functional voice, video and data communications. NEC's voice solutions operate in open environments and are engineered to deliver IP and TDM Telephony in a mixed environment, based upon customer needs. In addition, NEC's BlueFire(TM) family of IP routers and switches provides reliable data communications to the enterprise as well.
