WAYNE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 2003
JVC's Revolutionary GY-DV300 and KA-DV300 Now Available to the
More Than 100 Million QuickTime Users
JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today announced that the GY-DV300 Streamcorder professional camcorder is now compatible with Apple Computer's QuickTime 6 digital media technology and industry standard MPEG-4.
The JVC GY-DV300 is the world's first 3 CCD broadcast-type hand-held camcorder with the capability of recording simultaneously to tape and providing QuickTime compatible MPEG-4 program content for streaming over the Internet Fully functioning as a broadcast-quality professional camera, QuickTime 6 compatibility enables the GY-DV300 to meet the demands of Mac OS X professionals for streaming and wireless applications. In addition, JVC has announced that the GY-DV300 will provide ISMA compliant MPEG-4 program content in the near future.
"Since the introduction of JVC's revolutionary camcorder a year ago, we have received tremendous interest from Apple users to expand its compatibility to include QuickTime, one of the world's most popular multimedia platforms providing the highest quality streaming video," said Robert Mueller, executive vice president of JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY. "The image quality from the GY-DV300 when viewed with QuickTime 6, is far superior to any other media player. Users can stream pictures directly over the Internet or through private networks for viewing in QuickTime or ultimately in any ISMA compliant MPEG-4 applications."
"JVC's QuickTime 6 support is a perfect example of the continuing momentum of MPEG-4," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "JVC saw an incredible opportunity with the more than 100 million QuickTime users and the thousands of third-party applications that incorporate QuickTime's powerful multimedia architecture. We are delighted that JVC's decision to support open standards will be such a benefit to QuickTime 6 users."
Launched in February 2002, the JVC Streamcorder was the first Internet-capable professional broadcast camera. Extending the ability to offer QuickTime 6 now and planned support for industry standard MPEG-4 compatibility for high-quality streaming video is made possible with JVC's modular KA-DV300 network package.
The KA-DV300 network package attaches to the bottom of the camcorder and provides a slot for a LAN card or compact flash card, permitting full end-user control over all camera functions from a remote location. The network package, available separately or bundled with the GY-DV300U, includes an integrated fully functional Web server, permitting an end-user full control over the camera, lens and VCR, as well as the ability to stream live to a distant location by just using a standard Web browser.
All JVC KA-DV300U network packs shipped after April 1, 2003 will incorporate the QuickTime upgrade. JVC anticipates shipping the ISMA compliant version of MPEG-4 in the near future. Customers who presently own previous versions of the network pack will be able to download upgrade software from the JVC website.
