LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003
Optibase, Ltd. (Nasdaq:OBAS), a leader in digital video streaming solutions, will preview hardware encoding and streaming of Windows Media 9 Series using its MGW 2400 platform at NAB 2003.
The demonstration will be held at the Optibase booth #SL2623, at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in Las Vegas April 7-10, 2003.
MGW 2400 is the industry's first integrated hardware-based Windows Media encoding and streaming platform. Powered by an Equator Media Processor and embedded Windows 2000 Server, it is designed to enable high quality video streaming at bit rates starting as low as 100 kbps, and up to 2 Mbps per stream.
Internationally deployed, the MGW 2400 encodes and streams TV, corporate communications and training sessions, which can be played back on over 450 million Windows Media Players deployed worldwide. This enables Service Providers to offer their broadband subscribers the option to receive and view entertainment channels on PCs running Windows Media Player. In the enterprise, IT specialists can multicast live business and information channels over the enterprise LAN to desktop PCs.
The MGW 2400 encodes up to 6 live channels. In addition, it has the ability to stream to 48 unicast or multicast users without needing an external Windows Media Server. If an external Windows Media Server is required, then the MGW 2400 seamlessly connects and configures the external Windows Media Server. In addition to utilizing Microsoft's powerful streaming tools, the MGW 2400 has implemented innovative traffic shaping technology to optimize the video quality at any connection speed. With traffic shaping, video is smoother and network transmission and control are stable for guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS).
"Windows Media 9 Series offers unmatched audio and video quality at any bit rate, and this opens up an exciting market segment for Optibase. We believe that the combination of our encoding and streaming expertise together with support for Windows Media positions the MGW 2400 as the platform of choice for high quality streaming, even at low bit rates," said Amir Goren, vice president of marketing and business development, Optibase Ltd. "Further, Optibase plans to offer support for the upcoming Windows Server 2003."
"Optibase is showing its innovation with this demonstration by previewing Windows Media 9 Series support within an integrated hardware-based streaming solution," said Jonathan Usher, director of the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft. "Attendees at NAB will be able to see Optibase's one-stop solution for encoding and delivery of digital media that uses our latest technology to help enable new scenarios and experiences for users."
A demonstration of both MGW 2400 and Windows Media 9 Series encoding and streaming, is available at the Optibase booth #SL2623.
