WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003
Enterprise-Wide Deployment to Support 10,000 Users and Enable
the Secure Management of 500,000 Products and Projects
MatrixOne, Inc. (NASDAQ: MONE), a leading provider of collaborative product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions for the value chain(TM), today announced that GE Industrial Systems (GEIS), a $6 billion unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), has selected MatrixOne's PLM solutions to create a single, integrated collaborative environment for planning, development, sourcing and program management capabilities. GEIS has more than 500,000 products in their portfolio and manages more than 20,000 projects per year. More than 10,000 GEIS employees, customers and suppliers will access the environment through a role-based portal called "My Workplace," which provides secure access to collaborative PLM capabilities through one common, easy-to-use interface.
Through the creation of this collaborative environment, GEIS significantly reduced the time associated with New Product Development (NPD), cut overall costs and improved the overall quality of completed projects and products. GEIS said it expects its savings to be "significant" over the next two years, partly through the elimination of several disparate "point" IT solutions and applications, delivering return on the implementation investment. MatrixOne solutions also enabled GEIS to reduce implementation cycle time, providing the company with the shortest path possible to efficiency and savings.
"GE Industrial Systems is a large global enterprise in the business of protecting peace of mind for our customers. Peace of mind also means simple, enterprise-wide collaboration so customers, suppliers and our employees can be as efficient as possible," said Stuart Scott, CIO of GE Industrial Systems.
As a leader in the integrated industrial, electrical and security equipment, systems and service business, GEIS required an environment where product teams can collaborate on projects, regardless of where they are located geographically. Built on the eMatrix Adaptive Application Architecture(TM), which enables companies to create a modular and secure collaborative development environment, the "My Workplace" enables employees to collaborate more effectively with colleagues in engineering, manufacturing and marketing around the world. GEIS buyers are able to more easily and quickly secure accurate quotes from suppliers, and customers can quickly find the most current product information via the Web.
MatrixOne Program Central(TM) enables the management of projects and multi-project programs from the earliest idea to securing funding through detailed project execution, providing dashboard and metric alerting throughout the lifecycle. Through the functionality in MatrixOne Supplier Central(TM) and MatrixOne Sourcing Central(TM), a request for quote (RFQ) is created to which suppliers respond by accessing the system. Through detailed engineering information, including bills-of-materials (BOMs), the manufacturing floor is able to access detailed drawings, and marketing managers are able to view and change documents. Customers also access marketing and appropriate engineering product documentation in the My Workplace portal through the "A-Z product index" on the GEIS external Web site.
"Today's economic environment mandates that every business find a competitive advantage over the competition and overcome other external factors. We can help our customers derive a new level of success through the creation of an environment that allows geographically distributed internal and external teams to manage products down to the most granular level. The MatrixOne PLM environment helps them achieve this by providing a standardized environment for accessing and sharing information, regardless of its application type or format," said Mike Segal, senior vice president of customer success at MatrixOne. "MatrixOne is committed to providing solutions that help our customers shorten product development time and introduction. By doing so, we are delivering this competitive advantage to many of the most well known companies in business today, such as GE Industrial Systems."
