BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003
CareKey, Inc. today announced that Personal Physicians HealthCare, (PPHC), Boston's premier medical practice, has chosen to implement the CareKey-Professional Personal Health Information Management System. Designed to help providers and payors strengthen relationships with patients, the application will allow PPHC's patients to use the Internet to access, collect and share their personal health information with anyone they chose. With CareKey, users will also receive personalized health services and be able to communicate securely via the web with the practice.
Personal Physicians HealthCare physicians are all on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. The practice is dedicated to delivering the highest level of service and care-quality to their patients. By limiting the size of their patient panel, focusing on wellness care, and leveraging the Internet, the group has developed a reputation as a leading physician practice in the Boston area.
Dr. Steven R. Flier, a PPHC founder, said, "This is an exciting opportunity for us to provide the same level of service and access online that we currently offer in our offices." Dr. Jordan Busch, another of PPHC's founding physicians, stated, "CareKey affords us the ability to associate our practice with our patients' health, not just their illnesses."
"We are pleased to work with PPHC to help them satisfy their patients demand for information and control in their care delivery. This collaboration is further proof of the growing importance of patient empowerment with the modern healthcare consumer," said Dr. Ido Schoenberg, CEO of CareKey. Peter Reilly, CareKey executive sales manager commented, "CareKey will allow PPHC to leverage its existing investments in electronic medical records (GE Logician(TM)) to both deepen its relationships with its patients as well as facilitate care coordination."
The implementation is expected to be completed in roughly eight weeks, including customization, interfacing with existing systems and on-site training. "This project is a great example of how providing access to patient information can be accomplished in a matter of weeks, and without the technology budget of a national HMO," commented Kevin Agatstein, a spokesman for CareKey.
About Personal Physicians HealthCare
Personal Physicians HealthCare (PPHC) is a unique primary care practice, which limits each doctor's panel of patients to a maximum of 300, compared to the usual practice where each doctor cares for 3000 or more patients. By limiting the number of patients, each doctor has the time to devote to each patient and his or her needs. This practice has been the focus of national interest since its formation in 2001, having been the subject of front page stories in the New York Times, Boston Globe and Washington Post, and featured stories on NBC's Today Show and National Public Radio.
