SBS Technologies Introduces Dual Gigabit Ethernet PMCs for Conduction and Air Cooled Systems

Business Wire, Dec 9, 2003

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 2003

-- Rear panel I/O access with supporting transition module

-- Dual 1000BaseT/100BaseTX/10BaseT Gigabit Ethernet interfaces

on a PCI mezzanine card (PMC)

-- Two levels of ruggedization available:

1. conduction cooled with conformal coating

2. commercial temperature

SBS Technologies(R) (Nasdaq: SBSE), a leading provider of embedded computing technology, introduced two new COTS PMCs with dual copper Gigabit Ethernet Interfaces and rear panel I/O access. Both PMCs are designed to support government and commercial applications requiring industry-standard high-bandwidth system interconnection, a PMC form factor, and I/O access via the rear panel.

"These Gigabit Ethernet cards are excellent examples of how the latest high-performance 'Information Technology' standards can be applied to embedded military, avionics, and industrial applications -- applications that often require rear access to all I/O," said Bill Molyneux, Vice President of SBS' General Purpose I/O Products. A conduction cooled version of this card, the PMC-GBIT-DT2CC, is offered for Military and other extended environmental applications. PCM-GBIT-DT2BP is the commercial temperature version.

Both Gigabit Ethernet cards are single-wide PMCs with 32/64-bit 33/66 MHz PCI, 66/133 MHz PCI-X. They have back panel I/O access, auto-negotiating protocol selection, and support for Jumbo frames. Transmit and receive FIFOs, 64 KB total per port, allow back-to-back transmissions with minimal interface latency.

Dual integrated low-powered MAC/PHY functionality is provided by the Intel 82546EB Ethernet chip. The chip appears on the PCI bus as a multi-function device reducing the number of PCI-to-PCI bridges required and, consequently, significantly improving bus performance.

Standard network connection is accomplished through a rear panel I/O and a rear panel interface module for Ethernet, the PIM-GBIT-DT.

Price and Availability

Both PMCs and the PIM module are available now. The price for the conduction cooled PMC-GBIT-DT2CC is US $1495.00. PMC-GBIT-DT2BP is US $475.00. PIM-GBIT-DT is priced at US $150.00.
