BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 2003

Del Webb, a brand of Pulte Homes (NYSE:PHM), brings years of experience with active adults to a new community on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Originally opened by Pulte Homes in May 2001 as Easton Club East, Chesapeake by Del Webb will be an age-qualified community for those age 55 and better. The official reopening and name change will take place on Saturday, February 15, with activities continuing through Sunday, February 16.

"We originally opened this community just before Pulte Homes acquired the Del Webb Corporation," said Lou Baker, Division President responsible for overseeing this project. "Since then, we have had the opportunity to learn more about the Del Webb business model and the tremendous benefits of an age-qualified community. We are very pleased to make this change and to bring to Maryland's Eastern Shore a brand that literally defines the active adult lifestyle."

Del Webb opened their first age-qualified community, Sun City, near Phoenix, Arizona in early 1960 and has been redefining how America looks at retirement living ever since.

Located in Easton, Maryland, Chesapeake by Del Webb will contain approximately 422 homes that feature open floor plans, all with first floor master bedrooms. Back alleyways and rear garages give the community a historical feel consistent with the City of Easton and Talbot County.

The community's multi-million dollar clubhouse, to be completed in the spring of this year, will feature 11,000 square feet of space for numerous community activities, including a cardiovascular fitness room, a grand ballroom, a billiards room, and an arts and crafts area. Outdoor amenities will include a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a common park area with a putting green. Picnic gazebos, walking trails and a community pond will also be featured at Chesapeake. Annmarie McCoy-Barratta, Lifestyle Director at Chesapeake, is responsible for directing the numerous activities for residents of the community. She compares living at Chesapeake to being on a year-round vacation.

According to Dave Schreiner, Vice President of Active Adult Development for Pulte Homes, today's active adults are nothing like the seniors of yesteryear. "Gone are the days of rocking chairs and shuffleboard," said Schreiner. "Today, this demographic is looking to stay involved in life and to explore new hobbies and activities. Basically, they are reinventing themselves and pursuing those interests they've always enjoyed but never had the time to investigate."

Maryland's Eastern Shore has been growing in popularity in recent years. Conveniently located between the beach and large metropolitan areas like Baltimore, Washington, and Wilmington, Talbot County has maintained its quaint appeal. Easton, a charming town of approximately 10,000 residents, provides excellent health care from a strong local hospital and medical community and is a thriving center for cultural activities, with a historic theater and numerous art venues. In addition, the town is convenient to the splendid Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. According to Baker. "We strongly feel this community is ideally located to be a home run for the area's retiring baby boomers."

Chesapeake by Del Webb will celebrate the grand reopening on February 15 and 16 with live Jazz music, free refreshments with an Eastern Shore flair, including crab soup and other local delicacies. The featured activity will be a wine tasting event hosted in the community model park, along with tours of the model homes and grand clubhouse.

How to Win at Office Politics

Like it or not, every workplace is a political environment. But operating effectively within it doesn’t have to mean sucking up, lying, or slinging dirt. In its purest form, office politics is simply about getting from here to there: securing a promotion, seeing an idea come to fruition, or gaining support to make an organizational change. Playing the game well is about defending your position, earning respect, exchanging favors, and keeping your sanity amid the chaos. To get started, you need to know what you really want from work, then orient your political moves toward those goals. It all starts with strong relationships and helping others; those people in return make up the support system that helps you realize your goals. Here’s how it’s done.
