BELLEVUE, Wash. & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2003
InfoSpace to provide ABCNEWS.com with meta-search capabilities,
powered by WebCrawler; ABCNEWS.com streaming audio and video content
to be distributed by InfoSpace
InfoSpace, Inc. (Nasdaq:INSP), a provider of wireless and Internet software and application services, and ABCNEWS.com, the 24-hour online news service of ABC News, today announced agreements in which InfoSpace will provide ABCNEWS.com next generation meta-search capabilities, powered by WebCrawler (www.webcrawler.com), and directory services, including Internet yellow and white pages.
In addition InfoSpace will distribute ABCNEWS.com streaming audio and video media content to Verizon Online.
InfoSpace's next generation meta-search technology allows users to search multiple search engines at once, returning the most comprehensive and relevant results fast. Launched earlier this year at WebCrawler, as well as at Excite Search (search.excite.com), Dogpile (www.dogpile.com) and MetaCrawler (www.metacrawler.com), InfoSpace meta-search integrates many of the Web's major search properties, including Google, FAST, Overture, About, Ask Jeeves, FindWhat, LookSmart, Open Directory and Inktomi.
Through InfoSpace's broadband media player application, Verizon Online Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) subscribers will now have access to premium video content from ABCNEWS.com including segments from World News Tonight, Good Morning America, 20/20 and Primetime Thursday. The InfoSpace Media Center is targeted towards broadband service providers and content companies, and is currently deployed to Verizon Online.
"ABCNEWS.com visitors depend on us for more than just news, which is why we believe that InfoSpace's WebCrawler meta-search capabilities are a compelling addition to ABCNEWS.com," said Bernard Gershon, senior vice president and general manager of ABCNEWS.com. "This deal also provides us an opportunity to deliver our rich audio and video news segments to new audiences."
"Our team has strived to develop a strong Web search product, and we're pleased to launch it on ABCNEWS.com, a premier destination for news on the Internet," said York Baur, InfoSpace executive vice president, wireline and broadband.
"Our distributed search product delivers comprehensive and relevant results, and a balanced and flexible business model to meet revenue needs," said Jim Voelker, chairman, CEO and president of InfoSpace.
