BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2003
Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that Shanghai Metro Operation Co. Ltd. (Shanghai Metro) will deploy Lucent's next-generation optical solutions to link subway stations on one route of Shanghai's metropolitan subway system and improve its multiservice network.
Shanghai P&T Equipment Co., Ltd., (PTIC), a Lucent Business Partner will provide post-sale support. Shanghai Metro will use Lucent's Metropolis(r) ADM MultiService Mux and WaveStar(r) ITM-SC to build a cost-effective multiservice transmission network to transmit voice, data and video services between the control center and subway stops. The network will also enhance Shanghai Metro's services such as billing system, Intranet and database management.
"The unparalleled flexibility of Metropolis(r) ADM will enable Shanghai Metro to maximize its current investments, and plan for the future," said David Poon, vice president, Global Business Partner Organization, Lucent Technologies China. "We are pleased to be working with PTIC to provide Lucent's industry-leading next- generation optical networking solutions to Shanghai Metro and look forward to working with Shanghai Metro as it moves further ahead with its plans."
The Number One route on Shanghai's Metro system currently has 16 stops along 20.6km(12.8 miles) of track. Upon completion of the re-engineering project, this line will extend to 32.6km(20.25 miles) with 25 stops. The re-engineered transmission system will be used primarily for voice and data transmission between the control center and each individual stop.
Metropolis(r) ADM MultiService Mux, the newest addition to Lucent's SDH portfolio, is a next-generation optical access multiplexer that supports a full array of metro needs with a single, compact platform that is both flexible and scaleable. The system's ability to link with other optical systems on different metro lines will lay a solid foundation for Shanghai Metro for its further reengineering projects, according to Poon.
Shanghai Metro will also be deploying the WaveStar(r) ITM-SC (Integrated Transport Management - Subnetwork Controller), which provides element management functions for optical transport networks as part of Lucent's Navis(tm) Optical Management Solution portfolio of software products. The Navis(tm) Optical Management Solution, makes it easy for carriers to integrate this product into their existing SDH network, and is part of the Navis(tm) iOperations Software, Lucent's open, standards-based portfolio of Network and Element Management Systems.
