Contact Lens Manufacturer's Rapid Growth Prompts New System
Acquisition
Computer Resolutions Inc. (CRI), a full-service supplier of computer hardware products and services, today announced that CooperVision Inc., the largest toric contact lens company in the world, has purchased two 12 processor Unisys(R) ES7000 Orion servers from CRI, a Unisys distributor.
CRI's enterprise server group focuses on assisting medium to large-size organizations with database scalability, server and storage consolidation efforts by bringing enterprise level products and expertise to their customers.
With the knowledge that CooperVision was facing aggressive growth, CRI recommended the Unisys ES7000 and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Datacenter Server solution. This offers them modular expansion capabilities to support their future application and business development. According to Lorrie Watson, CooperVision's vice president, information technology, "The CRI team was excellent in providing their knowledge as well as bringing in several experts to help us thoroughly evaluate the best solution for our situation."
CooperVision elected to go with a highly available configuration of two ES7000 systems to ensure server uptime. Each ES7000 will be populated with 12 processors as well as 12 GB of memory for high reliability and scalability. Both systems will be running Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Datacenter Server operating systems and have the ability to scale up to 32 processors.
Watson added, "The scalability was the main reason for purchasing the ES7000s. CooperVision is growing very rapidly and we've expanded beyond the 8 processor server we're currently running. We're also implementing an ERP system that has a lot of processing requirements which these servers offer."
According to CRI president, John Palmieri, "CooperVision is very significant to our enterprise server group because it demonstrates that you can bring enterprise scalability and availability to the Microsoft space which is currently dominated by proprietary mainframe hardware and operating systems. There is a growing need for this type of solution not only in the database arena but also in consolidation of mission critical servers."
