SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 2003

LuxN(TM), a leading provider of multi-service, intelligent, metropolitan transport platforms and Procera Networks, Inc., the leader in QoS Everywhere(TM) solutions for application and bandwidth performance management, today announced an OEM Agreement for the Procera Multi-Layer Switch (MLS) product.

Under the terms of the agreement, LuxN will market Procera MLS under the "LuxN MLS" banner and provide service and support for the product. With the addition of the MLS to LuxN's existing Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) infrastructure product line, LuxN customers now benefit from a seamlessly managed end-to-end service provisioning.

The MLS provides 10/100Mbps bandwidth aggregation for delivering Ethernet services across Metropolitan Networks (MAN) to the desktop with more flexibility and at a significant cost savings to competitive offerings. With twenty-four 10/100Mbps ports and two optional gigabit Ethernet ports in a 1U rack-mountable form factor, the MLS offers Layer 2-7 switching and routing, as well as packet shaping and security capabilities at Layer 7.

"The agreement with Procera to market the MLS allows our customers to deploy flexible Ethernet services over their networks in any bandwidth increment required. In addition to delivering transport services, our customers can now offer value-added Layer 2-7 capabilities all in a single cost effective platform," said Pete Palmer, director of product management at LuxN.

"Through Procera's technology, LuxN has not only added features to their product offerings but also extended and expanded their market reach and scope from the metro area network to the enterprise LAN," said Chris Claudatos, vice president of Marketing at Procera. "LuxN's customers now have an one-stop solution for bandwidth aggregation, traffic grooming, differentiated services, and security," he added.

The MLS manages application performance at 10/100/1000Mbps speeds while providing packet shaping at wire-speed in hardware. A powerful tool for managing the performance for ERP, CRM, VoIP, video, and other multi-media applications, the MLS ensures that network resources are matched to the precise requirements of users and workgroups. Advanced QoS capabilities in the MLS allow customers to create ATM-like traffic-shaping features over Ethernet.

According to LuxN's Palmer, "The MLS combines the functions of packet shaping and security systems in a single hardware-based solution. The MLS is the only advanced switching solution to provide wire-speed throughput while optimizing and securing Layer 4-7 applications."

In a recent survey of US-based large enterprise IT Managers by the market research firm the Yankee Group, over 60 per cent of respondents indicated a preference for having additional layer 4-7 features integrated into their current, high-end switching platform and they expected the trend to continue for the foreseeable future. The Yankee Group also expects the worldwide market for Layer 2-7 switches to grow to $14.7 billion by 2006.

"Service providers today demand vendors to deliver more functionality for less capital cost, all while reducing opex and increasing their revenue streams," said Christin Flynn, director, The Yankee Group. "Together, LuxN and Procera deliver a solution that enables service providers to deliver multiple, revenue-generating services from their metro access networks," she added.
