SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2003
Maxim Integrated Products (Nasdaq:MXIM) advised today that the Company and its wholly owned subsidiary, Dallas Semiconductor, are issuing a Customer Alert Notice regarding counterfeit Maxim/Dallas products being sold in Asia. The counterfeit parts, specifically nonvolatile SRAM (NVSRAM) modules, have package dimensions, markings, and trademarked Maxim/Dallas logos copied from the Maxim/Dallas products that can mislead unsuspecting customers into believing that they have purchased legitimate Maxim/Dallas products. The Customer Alert Notice can be found on Maxim's website at: http://www.maxim-ic.com/alert1.
> Don Dias, Managing Director for NVSRAM products at Dallas Semiconductor, commented: "The knowing sale or use of these counterfeit products constitutes patent infringement. Unauthorized use of the Maxim/Dallas logo and other trademarked markings that identify the Company's product constitutes trademark infringement. Maxim/Dallas will aggressively enforce its rights under those patent and trademark rights. Maxim/Dallas will pursue all available criminal and civil remedies and will seek Federal Trade Commission actions to prevent the import and sale of any equipment made using these or other counterfeit devices."Mr. Dias continued: "Maxim/Dallas owns intellectual property required for the manufacture of high-performance, high-reliability NVSRAM modules. Customers who have purchased these counterfeit devices should not expect their performance or reliability to meet the specifications of the legitimate Maxim/Dallas devices." The technical problems associated with their use are detailed in the Customer Alert Notice on the Company's website.
To ensure that the products used in their equipment meet Maxim/Dallas design, manufacturing, and reliability standards, customers are advised to purchase products only from authorized Maxim/Dallas distributors or representatives, or from Maxim/Dallas Direct! Distribution. A list of authorized distributors and representatives is available on Maxim's website.
