FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2003
Amplify.net, Inc., the worldwide leader in affordable business continuity solutions, today announced that its iSurfJanus-RX(TM) Secured Multi-homed WAN Gateway has been successfully deployed to enable James White PhD., an internet service provider located in Evanston, Il, to webcast live events and archived media Real Audio & Video Streaming content for the U.S. Department of Commerce's (DOC) website.
iSurfJanus: Breaking the "T1 Barrier"
To provide live closed-circuit, public-viewing, and archived file webcasts, the U.S. Department of Commerce has been offering audio & video streaming webcasts to the general public via its website (http://www.commerce.gov).
There was a critical problem, however. This streaming service was previously provided over one T1 line only, with no redundancy or anyway to increase bandwidth if desired. As these are very mission-critical webcasts, having full redundancy of the single T1 line became a top priority for James White, Ph.D., an Internet Service Provider specializing in audio and video web streaming and co-location services for customers including the U.S. Department of Commerce.
"The solution to this critical problem was Amplify's iSurfJanus-RX, a unique product, which provides 100 percent redundancy should the T1 line fail during a DOC nationwide webcast," said James White, President & CEO of James White, PhD. "As an additional significant benefit, the iSurfJanus- RX also allows us to aggregate additional bandwidth to the existing T1 line without having to deploy an expensive DS3 connection."
"With Amplify's iSurfJanus-RX Gateway, we found a most cost-effective solution to add the needed redundancy to our network used for U.S. Department of Commerce Real Systems Streaming," continued Jim White. "Amplify's solution has enabled us to move beyond the limitations of one T1 line by adding a new 1.5 Mbps SDSL link, while fully utilizing the capacity of the existing 1.5 Mbps T1. Not only are we now able to guarantee flawless webcasts with the iSurfJanus-RX, we can also now deliver additional capacity to the Department of Commerce and our other clients as needed, should they require this in the future. The iSurfJanus-RX is the perfect fit for us. It provides super-reliable service as well as supporting large, high-quality audio and video streams, and at the same time we are able to create a fail-safe backup to the existing T1 link for our client, the U.S. Department of Commerce."
James White, Ph.D. also has a slower ADSL line that was purchased long ago for manual backup, at present also connected to the iSurfJanus-RX. "As our users' demand for Real Audio Streaming Services increases, we plan to replace this line with another 1.5Mbps SDSL link via iSurfJanus-RX's third WAN port, thereby instantly creating a robust broadband network with a 4.5 Mbps capacity. Furthermore, we plan to install a second iSurfJanus-RX unit for high-availability utilizing its Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) feature," further stated Dr. White.
"We are very pleased that our products are able to provide the private sector, and in turn our Government, critical solutions for its private and public communication efforts," said Pauline Lo Alker, President and CEO. "During the current transitional global climate, more and more of our citizens are interested in accessing up-to-date news and information directly from the many public website services provided by our Government."
