SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2003
SkyRiver Communications Inc. announces Time Warner Cable will add SkyRiver broadband wireless access (BWA) to help extend its reach into the small to medium business market.
As a supplement to their state-of-the-art fiber optic and cable broadband network, Time Warner Cable will provide SkyRiver's fixed wireless broadband service to businesses in Time Warner's San Diego coverage area.
The SkyRiver wireless broadband access network covers approximately 700 sq. miles within San Diego County. Featuring speeds up to 2.5Mbps, high reliability and security, the SkyRiver network provides Time Warner the ability to expand its coverage into areas not previously serviced by existing cable modem or T-1 availability. In addition, Time Warner will now be able to install wireless broadband access within three business days -- much faster and less expensively than traditional wireline services such as DSL and T-1s.
According to SkyRiver CEO Trent Anderson, "SkyRiver's network carrier model creates a strong business case for Time Warner to partner with us in San Diego. Rather than going to the expense of building their own wireless infrastructure and learning the nuances of managing a wireless network, Time Warner can generate immediate cash flow by becoming a retail distribution partner."
Time Warner Cable will now be able to capitalize on additional selling opportunities as a result of the distribution agreement. Time Warner Cable's Road Runner Commercial Services Manager Fran Mingura commented, "Our Road Runner Business Class department has seen tremendous success lately. Through our partnership with SkyRiver, we will be able to meet demand and serve customers even faster and more efficiently than before. On occasion we receive a business customer request for our High Speed Data cable modem service but servicing their previously unwired office would require extending our cable network, which may take several weeks to a month to accomplish. With SkyRiver now a part of our service options, we can have that customer up and running within 2-3 days."
