GeoSchools and GeoChoice Applications Enable County Workers to

Leverage Location When Making Critical Decisions about School

Districts

MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS) and International Computer Works, Inc. (ICW) today announced that its technology has been selected by the School District of Hillsborough County, Florida (SDHC) for its GIS-based student registration and management system. Demonstrations of the technology can be viewed at the Florida Educational Technology Conference, booth #126, which is being held at the Orange County Convention Center, February 4-6.

ICW's GeoSchools and GeoChoice, which are powered by MapInfo Professional, MapInfo's flagship desktop mapping product, provides the SDHC with the tools necessary to make decisions regarding student placement, boundaries and the application of race-neutral factors in the selection process of students for magnet schools and schools of choice.

"Creating a new attendance zone and assigning the student population can be a lengthy and very public process, and often prone to lengthy debates. However by using the GIS solution developed by ICW and MapInfo, we were able to visually analyze the information and create a politically and socially acceptable solution to a series of interrelated problems," said Ann Marie Courtney, marketing & recruitment specialist, Magnet Schools, SDHC.

"The GeoSchools and GeoChoice applications are a perfect example of using location intelligence to analyze, visualize and share important information," said Sabby Nayar, strategic industry manager, government, at MapInfo Corp. "These applications are designed specifically to meet the vast needs of school districts and seamlessly integrate with existing GIS and interoperate with existing school systems."

ICW first introduced GeoSchools and GeoChoice with an award from the School District of Manatee County, Florida in 1998.
