WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 2003

International Typeface Corporation, a major provider of fonts and custom typefaces, has released 26 new fonts. Complete character sets of each font can be viewed by searching by font name at www.itcfonts.com.

The new typefaces include ITC Cali(TM), ITC Greengate(TM), ITC Arecibo(TM), ITC Arecibo Too(TM), ITC Bette(TM), six new italic complements to the ITC Johnston(TM) family and the 15-font ITC Tactile(TM) family. These original and exclusive designs are available immediately from ITC and www.itcfonts.com.

"ITC has a long-standing reputation for releasing both traditional designs and innovative, modern faces," said Allan Haley, director of words and letters at ITC. "From the historic roots of ITC Johnston and ITC Greengate, to the imaginative design of ITC Tactile, this fresh batch of ITC fonts continues that tradition."

ITC Cali

ITC Cali is based on designer Louis Siquot's use of a pen made specifically for left-handed calligraphers. "Electronic scans of my calligraphy were the foundation of the design," he said. "I was careful to leave in some imperfections to avoid an excessively mechanical look. I also added the little notches in the strokes to imitate the texture of writing on rough cotton paper."

ITC Greengate

ITC Greengate is a time-traveling collaboration between Richard Every and the early 20th century Scottish artist, Jessie Marion King. Hand lettering from King's celebrated children's book illustrations provided the inspiration for this earthy, Art Nouveau-flavored design. When Every saw some of King's illustrations, he knew immediately that he had to complete the hand lettering of the character set as a full typeface design. Six years later, ITC Greengate was born.

ITC Arecibo and ITC Arecibo Too

A powerful headline face from Luis Siquot, ITC Arecibo offers some eye-catching details in a highly legible, space-saving design. At first glance, ITC Arecibo has a sturdy 19th century wood-type flavor, yet the delicate hairline shadow is decidedly Art Deco. ITC Arecibo's central horizontal strokes share the same alignment as those in the full-size letters, while the horizontal strokes of ITC Arecibo Too are proportional with the small caps.

ITC Bette

ITC Bette is an elegant calligraphic script with a spontaneous feel. The design appears to be drawn with a brush held delicately at a right angle to the page. This refined, personal script is the final design of the late Patty King.

ITC Johnston Italics

When ITC Johnston was first released in 1999, it was without a suite of italic faces. The reason? ITC Johnston finds its roots in Edward Johnston's early 1900 "London Underground Railway" typeface and there were no italics for his original design. David Farey and Richard Dawson worked for over a year to complete the family with a collection of italics that would serve as a proper complement to the roman weights. The result is a distinctive, exceptionally versatile and ultimately handsome typeface family.

ITC Tactile

ITC Tactile is a puzzle of subtle typographic contradictions. Light weights are stately and elegant, but bold designs are almost jolly. This paradoxical alphabet even combines two distinctively different serif designs. Totaling 15 fonts, the ITC Tactile family contains three weights, with complementary italic designs, roman and italic oldstyle figures, and a suite of small caps for each of the roman designs.
