Unsigned Band to Perform Live in Front of Millions of Television
Viewers on the 30th Annual American Music Awards
Last night at the EL Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, "The American Music Awards(R) Presents The Coca-Cola New Music Award" competition came to a conclusion when Dick Clark and other notable music industry experts selected Moe Loughran to receive the second annual Coca-Cola New Music Award. Moe Loughran and her band, based in Nashville, will fulfill the dream of a lifetime when they step on stage to perform live in front of millions of television viewers and an on-site audience of major music industry executives on the 30th Annual American Music Awards. R&B singer Mya and Hip-Hop lyricist Common will present the band with the award just prior to their live performance. The three-hour awards show special will be televised live on ABC-TV, January 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The show will be hosted by the Osbournes and will include live performances by Christina Aguilera, matchbox twenty and Shania Twain, among others.
Moe Loughran, based in Nashville, TN, fronts a pop-rock band with a sound that is above all "real." Her sincerity comes through from her songs, stage presence and undeniable voice. Playing internationally as well as touring the top U.S. clubs, Moe has carved herself a niche in the independent music scene. Moe's band is comprised of Elisa Lee, Roger Nichols and Corey Siegle. "Without a doubt, this is one of the greatest honors and most exciting things to ever happen to us," said Moe Loughran. "It goes without saying that an opportunity like this doesn't come along very often. We'd like to thank Dick Clark, Coca-Cola, the American Music Awards and CMJ for giving us the chance to show millions of people what we can do."
Judges for the Finalist playoff competition included Dick Clark, Bobby Haber, CEO and founder of CMJ and Nic Harcourt, host of "Morning Becomes Eclectic" on 89.9 KCRW-FM in Santa Monica, CA. The other Finalist bands were Honeycomb from New York City, NY and Terell from Jamesburg, NJ.
"It is bands like these three extremely talented acts that bring life to new music and the music industry," said Dick Clark. "When faced with talent like this, choosing one winner is extremely challenging. Winning this award is hopefully just the first step in a long and successful career in music for Moe and her band."
The Coca-Cola New Music Award, now in its second year, was created by The American Music Awards, The Coca-Cola Company, dick clark communications and The CMJ Network, to honor the best unsigned artist or band in America. Entries were received last summer and CMJ editors and writers chose the top 50 Qualifiers in September. Dick Clark and Bobby Haber selected the 10 Semi-Finalists who competed at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City in October.
The American Music Awards(R), produced by dick clark productions, inc., is a landmark television special celebrating its 30th year on ABC-TV in 2003. There are 20 award winners, spanning eight musical categories, who are selected by the American record-buying public. The show is one of the highest-rated awards specials on television each year.
