ALBANY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2003

Delmar Learning, a leading provider of educational resources for lifelong learning and part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE:TOC; TSX:TOC), today announced its acquisition of Frontline Publishing.

The Somerville, Massachusetts, company will now be part of the Health Care Strategic Business Unit at Delmar Learning. Frontline brings to Delmar Learning its unique model for training and professional development for healthcare workers in the "front line" of care in long term care facilities like nursing homes and assisted living centers. Frontline products aim to build self-esteem and professionalism as the prerequisite for providing excellent service.

Through its monthly newsletters, Frontline Publishing has provided unique training to enable caregivers to meet the increasingly complex requirements of consumers and regulatory agencies. Delmar Learning will greatly expand the Frontline newsletters and training by drawing from the depth of its Nursing and Allied Health content. Delmar Learning will also make many of these training materials available online.

Three Frontline newsletters will add to Delmar Learning's breath of product. They will be joined by such innovative book products as: The Nursing Assistant's Survival Guide, The Family Member's Survival Guide, Leading the Way, and many more.

Nursing Assistant Monthly is the only ongoing training and communication program for and about nursing assistants. This subscription-based program is designed to build self-esteem and develop the professional skills of nursing assistants. With input from an advisory board of national experts, it highlights popular topics which focus on vital interpersonal and care issues. It is proven to help reduce turnover of CNA's.

The Resident Assistant is an exciting new program for and about Resident Assistants who work with residents in assisted living facilities. Also guided by a national advisory board, this electronic newsletter pursues issues critical to the success of frontline eldercare workers. It includes a trainer's guide that helps Resident Services Coordinators integrate the newsletter into training activities, as well as features interviews with prominent experts in caring for older persons.

The new Long Term Care Nurse's Companion provides the professional recognition, support, and up-to-date information LTC nurses require. Research has shown that this type of continuing education can increase job satisfaction and performance. Nurses will appreciate the LTC Nurse's Companion as it includes feature articles and expert interviews on timely topics, as well as an advice column providing a forum for nurses to have their own questions answered by experts.

Bill Brottmiller, executive director of the health care strategic business unit comments, "Delmar Learning is pleased to strengthen its professional information resources to complement its leading education content in long term care. Frontline offers the kind of quality products that fit with Delmar Learning's reputation in the long term health care market."
