ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2003
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan is pleased to announce that Teresa Wynn Roseborough has been chosen by The American Lawyer magazine as one of the 45 highest-performing members of the private bar under the age of 45.
Of this elite tier of legal professionals, Teresa is the only Atlanta-based attorney to earn this honor. The "45 Under 45" feature is the cover story in the influential trade magazine's January 2003 issue.
To select this group of industry leaders, a panel of six editors and senior reporters at The American Lawyer reviewed more than 600 names nominated by the nation's largest 200 firms (the "American Lawyer 200"). The magazine's staff researched news clips and Web sites seeking out prodigies who have already notched a major trial win or complex deal and who have established remarkable records of professional development.
Teresa is a full equity partner with Sutherland and serves as one of six members of the firm's Executive Committee. She focuses her practice on complex litigation matters at both the trial and appellate level, especially those involving constitutional law, class actions, telecommunications law and government regulation. Teresa served as one of the principal attorneys for the Gore campaign in the litigation associated with the 2000 Presidential election. She participated in briefing numerous issues in federal district court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court, and she successfully argued two appeals before the en banc Eleventh Circuit.
This past December, Teresa argued before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Keffler in Washington Department of Social and Health Services v. Guardianship of Keffler. The case, regarding the rights of foster children to receive their social security benefits, saw an uncommon Supreme Court occurrence - women arguing on behalf of both parties. A decision in the case is expected from the justices soon.
Teresa also serves on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of Georgia's Appellate Section. She is a member of the Council of Appellate Lawyers, Litigation, Individual Rights and Responsibilities, and Judicial Administration Sections of the American Bar Association. She serves on the Board of Directors of the American Constitution Society, the Justice Center of Atlanta and the Lawyer Foundation of Georgia.
In 1999, Former Governor Roy Barnes appointed her to serve on Georgia's Judicial Nominating Committee, and in 2001, she began a six-year term as a member of the State Bar of Georgia's Board of Bar Examiners. Also in 2001, newly-elected Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin asked Teresa to serve as a member of her Transition Team and Teresa presently chairs the Mayor's Process Review Committee. In 2002, Teresa was appointed to the Board of Advisors for the Center of Civil Rights at the University of North Carolina. Her tremendous commitment to public service also finds her on the Board of Trustees of Leadership Georgia (an organization sponsored in part by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce) and sitting on the Boards of Trustees of The Howard School and The Children's School.
The Supreme Court Historical Society recently selected Teresa as one of two attorneys to re-argue the famous Supreme Court case Gibbons v. Ogden as part of their annual National Heritage Lecture. Justice Antonin Scalia acted as the Marshall Court for the re-enactment, which took place in the Supreme Court's Chambers on September 19, 2002.
