Testing Engineers — San Diego Inc., Awarded Contract to Provide Testing & Inspection Services for Vista Unified School District's Guajome Park Academy

Testing Engineers -- San Diego Inc. (TESD) announced today that it has been awarded a contract to provide professional engineering consulting services during construction of Vista Unified School District's Guajome Park Academy.

The $23-million project will sit on the same 16-acre site where portable buildings now house classrooms. The new campus will have 106,000 square feet of space and will feature four main buildings surrounding a 25,000-square-foot, 1,000-seat, open-air amphitheater. Two learning center buildings will provide 48,000 square feet of classroom and laboratory space. A two-story, 40,000-square-foot entertainment and health center will include a full-size gymnasium and theater area. A two-story, 16,000-square-foot student-support building will house a library, high-tech research facilities and the academy's administrative offices.

Stucco-sided buildings in a traditional Spanish architecture style will be painted various shades of tan, to complement their environment. The buildings will feature metal roofs, matching the industrial theme of the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum next door.

Three hundred on-campus parking spaces and a circular student-loading zone will ease traffic congestion in the area.

TESD's scope of work includes testing and inspection of materials during construction. The contract is valued at $116,000. The project is anticipated to begin in February 2003 and be complete by July 2004.

The project architect is Sprotte & Watson Architecture & Planning, the contractor is Douglas E. Barnhart Inc.
