COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2003

STORServer(TM), Inc. -- the storage protection leader in Backup Appliances -- is now shipping the first hot backup software for Oracle on TRU64 UNIX. STORServer Data Protection (SDP) for Oracle on TRU64 UNIX is the only software that integrates with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), allowing Oracle to remain running during data protection functions.

SDP for Oracle on TRU64 UNIX is the first hot backup product created to integrate with both TSM and the backup-certified Recovery Manager (RMAN) provided by Oracle, says STORServer President John Pearring. The software joins STORServer's other hot backup software for Oracle, which includes SDP for Oracle on Linux, and SDP for Oracle on Open VMS. Designed to be "application-aware," all SDP products provide data protection that is tightly integrated with the Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i database

In conjunction with TSM, all versions of the SDP software automate data protection and allow the Oracle database server to continue executing mission critical applications, while safely securing data to offline storage, Pearring continues. "SDP for Oracle on TRU64 UNIX is designed to minimize system and application downtime, and increases administrator productivity and provides superior backup performance," he says.

SDP for Oracle on TRU64 UNIX manages and automates data protection on running database servers, which "vastly reduces costly application downtime and saves money," says STORServer Software Sales and Marketing Manager Diane Sullivan.

SDP for Oracle on TRU64 UNIX allows data storage on a wide variety of storage devices and allows performance of:

-- Full or table space backup of a database while it is online or offine

-- Full database restores either online or offline

-- Table space restores while database is offline

-- Backups of archive log files

-- Blocking of level incremental backup of changed database pages

-- Oracle backups with virtually no application impact

"By adding the backup capabilities of SDP for Oracle on TRU64 UNIX to your database management tool box, you gain the power of centralized backup and archive management, as well as on-line backup and restore, incremental backup, and automated storage management functions" says David Miller, STORServer's director of engineering and senior software architect.

System requirements for the software include Oracle 8iR3/Oracle 9iR2, TRU64 UNIX (all Oracle Certified Distributions) and Tivoli Storage Manager 4.2 or greater. SDP for Oracle on TRU64 UNIX is sold through a nationwide distribution of resellers, starting at a cost of $995.00.
