MatrixOne Engineering Central to Provide Collaborative PLM Environment
for National Security Laboratory's Large and Complex Projects
MatrixOne, Inc. (NASDAQ: MONE), a leading provider of collaborative product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions for the value chain(TM), today announced that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Livermore) has selected MatrixOne Engineering Central(TM), a MatrixOne Value Chain Portfolio(TM) application, to provide a secure collaborative PLM environment for its large and complex projects, as well as for its safety and quality-assurance infrastructure.
The ability to support model-based procurement and manufacturing will enable Livermore to speed project implementation time, ultimately delivering project results more quickly and at a lower cost. Similarly, the ability to manage and maintain Livermore's safety and quality-assurance infrastructure accurately and efficiently will improve response times, lower costs, and result in better service to Livermore projects.
The pilot user at Livermore is the National Ignition Facility, or NIF. The NIF project will use the world's largest laser to accomplish missions in national security, energy, and science research. MatrixOne Engineering Central offers a collaborative PLM system, supplying additional functions that support secure, unclassified collaboration across multiple organizations and configuration-managed model-based procurement and manufacturing. The result will be a lower total cost of ownership for Livermore. Other Livermore areas being addressed during the pilot phase include NIF conventional facilities maintenance and projects within the Nevada Test Site and the Defense Technologies Engineering Division.
Said Jens Mahler, Livermore's Acting Associate Director for Engineering: "The Lab's ability to execute major scientific projects in the national interest is dependent on the engineering rigor associated with those projects, and engineering rigor is increasingly dependent on high-technology design tools and associated product data management systems. Our new institutional configuration management process will provide a framework for Laboratory activities, such as requirements management, product identification, change management, and document management. This solution is a collaborative tool to share and access engineering data, standards, policies, and procedures, which will enhance the Laboratory's ability to accomplish its national mission in a safe and secure manner."
Out-of-the-box functionality including the advanced configuration, engineering change management functions, and best practices embedded in MatrixOne Engineering Central allow the customer to see results from its secure unclassified collaboration environment quickly. Users are able to easily access information in formats with which they are familiar by integrating existing electronic design automation (EDA) tools to MatrixOne Engineering Central through MatrixOne's packaged point-to-point integration solutions.
"Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is a critical component of our nation's security and scientific research community," said Don Hunt, senior vice president of worldwide field operations for MatrixOne. "The ability to collaborate securely with third parties outside of the enterprise, whether they are customers, suppliers, or research affiliates, is essential to many of our customers. MatrixOne Engineering Central is a proven solution to meet these needs."
