On Thursday, March 27th, Carolines on Broadway will celebrate it's 20th Anniversary with a star-studded comedy concert at Carnegie Hall featuring performances from top comedians including Denis Leary, Janeane Garofalo, Joy Behar & Caroline Rhea.

Other comedians scheduled to perform are Lewis Black and 'Sex and the City's' Mario Cantone. Carolines on Broadway was the training ground to many of today's top comedians, so the anniversary celebration is a homecoming to those comedians who were given their start in the business by the "Queen of Comedy" Caroline Hirsch.

BACKGROUND

Native New Yorker Caroline Hirsch first opened Carolines as a cabaret in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood. Shortly thereafter, she began booking comedy acts, including some of today's biggest stars such as Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Rosie O'Donnell, Garry Shandling, Jon Stewart and Tim Allen. Carolines quickly became a standout in the entertainment industry known for featuring a single star attraction whereas her competitors booked seven or eight comics per night.

Soon after, Carolines moved locations to the South Street Sea Seaport. There, the club thrived and established itself as the nation's preeminent comedy club. A&E's award winning "Carolines Comedy Hour" was developed and produced by Caroline at this location to much critical acclaim. In 1992, Carolines was relocated to Time Square, significantly contributing to the revitalization of the area over the past ten years.

Today, Carolines holds center stage in Times Square and continues to feature the hottest names in comedy including Damon Wayans, Dave Chappelle, Dave Attell and Darrell Hammond.

With Carolines, Caroline Hirsch has created an entertainment institution in the heart of New York City.
