SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 2003

Banter today announced that Business 2.0 magazine selected Banter Server, the leading platform for understanding informal written communication, for its third annual 'Essential Business Software Tool Kit,' a definitive list of 53 companies and technologies that will make business faster, smarter, more transparent and more productive. The list is featured in the February 2003 issue, which appeared on newsstands Jan. 6.

The editors of Business 2.0 created the list (in previous years called the 'Owner's Manual') in conjunction with Meta Group, a Stamford, Connecticut-based information technology research and consulting company. According to Business 2.0, the technologies featured in the guide "pry open once-closed information loops and allow executives to see through layers of management to real-time data."

"It is a privilege to be recognized by such top industry observers as Business 2.0 and Meta Group," said F. Thomas Aden, president and CEO of Banter. "Readers of the guide will be interested to know that Banter's technology has delivered proven results for companies like Wells Fargo, RBC Financial Group, ABN AMRO, Nintendo, Roxio and VeriSign."

The 'Tool Kit' -- a foldout section of the magazine containing technology descriptions, vendor recommendations and price points -- divides business technologies into five broad functions: Business Applications, Integration and Development Platforms, Business Process Management, Operations and Security and Web Applications. Banter Server is listed under Business Applications.

Banter is the market leader in providing enterprises with infrastructure technology that understands informal, written communication and enables applications to automatically respond to, route, categorize or filter the communication. Banter partners with CRM leaders such as Siebel, KANA, Remedy, Avaya and divine.

Global 2000 enterprises requiring combined quality and cost efficiency in the areas of e-mail response management, Web self-service, customer agent assistance and e-mail productivity use Banter Server to quickly integrate Banter's patented technology into their existing IT environment. Other uses include e-mail filtering and surveillance.
