FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 8, 2003
16,000 Beijing Mobile and Shenzhen Mobile Subscribers Sign Up in
First Week for the Latest in Mobile Personalization Service
During the first week of service availability, approximately 16,000 Beijing Mobile and Shenzhen Mobile subscribers signed up to add commercial music ringback tone service to their mobile phone experience. With the "Cai-Ling" ringback tones service, subscribers choose from a wide selection of commercial music recordings to replace the standard "ring, ring" connecting tone that people who call them hear. The WiseSpot-produced service makes mobile communication more personalized while opening new revenue possibilities for operators to increase average revenue per user (ARPU).
The foundation of the Beijing Mobile and Shenzhen Mobile service is WiseSpot's WiseRing personalized value-added services platform, which is built on technology from NMS Communications (Nasdaq:NMSS), trusted supplier of communications products and services. These two leading Chinese mobile operators, both of whom serve a very large subscriber base, place great importance on offering their customers innovative, quality services. They chose WiseSpot's solution based on that company's success deploying a similar service platform based on NMS products in Hong Kong's CSL Limited network launched earlier in 2003.
"More than ever, subscribers in China are demanding novel and easy-to-use features to enrich their daily communication. This trend is reflected in the growing popularity of handset ringtone downloads and MMS services. We believe the 'Cai-Ling' service adds a new dimension of personalization to the mobile communication experience for China Mobile subscribers," said Franky Lai, WiseSpot's chairman.
"Beijing Mobile and Shenzhen Mobile recognized that our personalized value-added services platform is a proven one that gives them the ability to offer network-based, handset- and device-independent services like ringback tones to their subscribers. We were able to deploy the service within two months, which speaks volumes to the ease of integration in any operator's network of our personalized services platform," said Garrick Ng, WiseSpot's Chief Technology Officer. "NMS continues to be our partner in helping give operators a service platform that has a quick ROI and carries winning, instantly profitable services like ringback tones. Going forward, we will continue to add new features and functionality to WiseRing, which will in turn enable our customers to sustain the popularity and profitability of their music ringback tone service."
