WILMINGTON, Mass. and SALFORDS, Surrey, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2003--Agfa Monotype Corp. has released 40 new and exclusive font products on Fonts.com.
Felbridge(TM), Braff(TM), Zemestro(TM), Linex Sans(TM), Mundo Sans(TM), Sweeney(TM), Twentieth Century Poster(TM), Goudy Ornate(TM) and Othello(TM) are the nine typeface families that comprise the new fonts. Complete character sets and sample images can be viewed on the "New Releases" and "Recent Releases" pages of www.fonts.com.
"Customers who are looking for unique, high-quality designs will be especially pleased with the new fonts," said Allan Haley, director of words and letters at Agfa Monotype. "The faces also meet our strict requirements for design, quality and performance. Several of the fonts, including new digital revivals of timeless designs, are the works of Agfa Monotype designers."
Felbridge, by Robin Nicholas of Agfa Monotype, was designed to perform well on the Web, in electronic media and when printed. "I wanted a straightforward sans serif with strong, clear letterforms that would not degrade when viewed in low-resolution environments," explained Nicholas. Felbridge is offered in four weights. Complementary italics are available for the regular and bold designs.
Braff, from Michael Harvey, is an outline display face that harmonizes strains of British grotesques with the flared terminals of Optima(R). Based on a series of titling capital letters, Harvey created the design for use when setting book jackets.
Zemestro is a straightforward sans serif that is meant to be read, according to the font's designer, Dave Farey. "There's nothing calligraphic about it, and there are no defining or identifiable single characters - it's just clean and simply constructed." The family is available in four weights, with complementary italics for the two lightest weights.
Linex Sans, with its mix of crisp angles and soft shapes, was created by Albert Boton to include in his extended Linex family. Suitable for both text and display sizes, the Linex Sans family includes three weights, with italic counterparts.
Mundo Sans is a humanist sans serif text face that Agfa Monotype's Carl Crossgrove designed for offering "almost limitless potential." Mundo Sans features seven weights. A complementary suite of cursive italics are available, featuring true cursive designs with fluid strokes and calligraphic undertones.
Sweeney is an italic uncial with strong Celtic overtones. Designed by Kathryn Darnell, Sweeney features bold strokes, calligraphic subtleties and traditional shapes for a distinctive ribbon-like quality in display sizes. Sweeney includes multiple alternative characters and Sweeney Lino Cut(TM), a companion font intended for initial caps.
Twentieth Century Poster was drawn by Steve Matteson of Agfa Monotype as a companion to the Twentieth Century(TM) family. Because of the font's late 1920s heritage, Matteson incorporated an Art Deco influence into this display alphabet design. An all-caps font, Twentieth Century Poster includes a suite of alternative capitals in the lowercase positions for simplifying the creation of custom headlines and display copy.
Goudy Ornate was designed by Frederic Goudy in 1931. In his words, "it is a simple, decorative face." This digital revival was created by Matteson and Crossgrove for use as a titling companion to Truesdell(TM) and Goudy Modern(TM). Goudy Ornate is also suitable for initial letters.
Othello was originally released by Monotype in 1928 with a dense graphic demeanor intended to deliver a straightforward, no-nonsense message. This versatile revival by Crossgrove has a direct, experiential quality that suggests action and the great outdoors. The new digital version includes a variety of characters that were previously unavailable, including small caps, alternate letters, ligatures and logotype.
The new fonts are available for both Microsoft(R) Windows(R) and Macintosh(R) platforms. Each font includes a license for up to five computers and one printer. In addition to purchasing from www.fonts.com, customers may order font products and extended licensing packages by calling Agfa Monotype at 1 800 424 8973, prompt three from the U.S. and Canada, or 0800 371242, prompt three from the U.K. Customers from other countries may call 44 17 3776 5959.
