BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2003
On the evening of Wednesday, June 18, the Hollywood community will be raising funds for a good cause while celebrating the diverse filmography of Kevin Bacon and enjoying a star-studded Downtown Burbank block party.
The event, "6 Degrees," was organized by the entertainment industry's non-profit environmental organization, ECO (the Earth Communications Office) and its 12-year media partner and sponsor, AMC Theatres. Proceeds from the night will benefit ECO's new print campaign, "Climate Star," which utilizes striking images of celebrities and compelling messages to motivate people to protect the environment and slow down global warming.
"The Climate Star project appealed to me on a number of levels," said actor Kevin Bacon. "When you learn information -- like the fact that all 10 of the warmest years on record have occurred in the last 15 years -- it hits home that our actions as people are seriously affecting the planet. I've got kids and their futures to think about, too. It's a very real problem, and anything we can do to make more people aware of solutions is important."
"Kevin Bacon was the first celebrity involved with Climate Star," said Ruben Aronin, ECO's executive director, "so ECO decided to thank him by celebrating his work, raising some money for the campaign and having some fun with the `6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon' phenomenon."
AMC's new state-of-the-art, 16-screen theater in Burbank is the site for "6 Degrees," where for one night, ECO's Climate Stars will parade down the red carpet for screenings of favorite Kevin Bacon films, old and new (each theater room will be playing a different Bacon-starring title) and attendees will have the opportunity to grab a sneak peak at the new theatre while rubbing elbows with some of Hollywood's leading lights.
Prior to the screenings, ticket holders will be treated to AMC's Grand Opening block party featuring a host of food, drinks and live entertainment. The event, also sponsored by Toyota, will feature a celebrity VIP party with Bacon and his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick, to raise funds for ECO's Climate Star campaign. Tickets are available for $25 via 1-888-663-3278.
Climate Star ads featuring Bacon, Sedgwick and other celebrities, have already appeared in magazines such as Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide, Us, Rolling Stone, and Redbook. Other publications slated to publish the ads include Blender, Country Gardening, Country Living, Discover, EMMY, Flaunt, InStyle, Marie Claire, Maxim, Men's Journal, North American Review, Nylon, O, Organic Gardening, Organic Style, Paper, People, SEED, Seventeen, Sports Illustrated, Stuff, and Wired.
