VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2003
Infowave Software (TSX:IW), a global provider of wireless software for mobile operators, corporations and individuals, announced today the launch of Symmetry Express, a wireless e-mail solution for mobile users seeking instant access to their personal e-mail accounts on a range of integrated devices. Available in early Q2 2003, Symmetry Express will work on any Pocket PC, Smartphone(TM) and Palm(TM) powered device from anywhere. The solution allows users to send and receive e-mail messages from their POP3, Yahoo Mail and Hotmail accounts directly from their integrated device and will be marketed through Infowave's network operator partners.
"Network operators have traditionally had to settle for less optimal browser-based solutions, for wireless e-mail access. As part of our Mobile Operator Solution Suite, Symmetry Express extends a rich wireless e-mail experience that will enable network operators to serve the requirements of their mass consumer market," said Bill Tam, Infowave's Executive Vice-President, Sales and Marketing. "Symmetry Express was developed in direct response to the demands of our mobile operator partners for a push e-mail solution for their range of new integrated devices. It works across a range of devices and is built on the same platform infrastructure as Infowave's Symmetry Pro corporate e-mail solution. This will allow our network operator partners to yield a much faster return on investment on their wireless data initiatives."
Symmetry Express is designed to provide always on access to POP3, Yahoo Mail and Hotmail from a broad-range of integrated devices including Pocket PC, Smartphone and Palm devices on virtually any wireless network. The software is easy to install and manage and is developed with both the mobile user and the network operator in mind.
Features for End Users
Symmetry Express offers a broad range of features to mobile users including:
Instant Delivery of New E-mail
For integrated wireless devices, Symmetry Express is designed to retrieve new e-mail messages and deliver them to a mobile user's device automatically without any user intervention.
Ability to Send as well as Receive E-mail Messages
Unlike most personal mail services that allow users only to download their messages, Symmetry Express allows users to both send and receive e-mail from their POP3, Yahoo Mail or Hotmail accounts.
Support for e-mail attachments
Users can receive, open and modify any attached file on integrated devices that support attachments.
Optimized E-mail Delivery
Infowave has incorporated its proprietary middleware technology for compressing and optimizing e-mail delivery in Symmetry Express in order to ensure the best performance for mobile users.
Simple to Use Interface
The Symmetry Express e-mail client software is designed to be extremely intuitive for mobile users and requires no training to get up and running.
Secure Access to E-Mail Accounts
Symmetry Express requires that a user enter valid user ID and password in order to gain access to e-mail wirelessly.
Flexible Options to Manage E-mail
Users have the flexibility to create message filters, establish message priority and choose to truncate messages retrieved by the device.
Complete Wireless Solution Offering for Network Operators
The addition of Symmetry Express further augments Infowave's solution portfolio for network operators. Symmetry Express takes advantage of Infowave's Mobile Application Gateway, a services platform for network operators to offer wireless data solutions to consumer and business subscribers.
The Symmetry Express solution integrates directly with a network operator's existing billing and operational support systems and provides the following capabilities:
Simple Provisioning
Symmetry Express is designed for simple provisioning and management for network operators. Provisioning is accomplished using either a web-based provisioning engine or using an Over-the-Air installation method that takes advantage of WAP-push technology.
Integrated Billing
Symmetry Express supports direct integration to a network operator's existing billing and customer care systems using published APIs.
Comprehensive Reporting and Administration
Network operators can take advantage of custom reporting capabilities to improve overall management and administration of the service to their end users.
Re-Branded Wireless E-Mail Solutions
Infowave also announced today that it has re-named its suite of wireless e-mail solutions which is intended to classify Infowave's wireless e-mail solutions under one comprehensive brand. The new core brand, termed "Symmetry(TM)", allows Infowave to more effectively position its wireless e-mail solutions for mobile operators and enterprise customers. To complement the new product names, Infowave has also unveiled a comprehensive new Web site that describes Infowave's offerings in the wireless market.
