DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2003
Regional healthcare provider selects ZixWorks(TM) managed service
and other ZixCorp protection solutions to address email threats and
compliance with HIPAA by April 2003
Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(TM)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging management and protection services, today announced that Mississippi Baptist Health Systems (Baptist), a regional healthcare provider based in Jackson, Miss., has selected ZixCorp as its trusted e-messaging solutions provider.
Baptist purchased a comprehensive package of ZixCorp e-messaging solutions including ZixAuditor(TM), ZixPort(TM), and the ZixWorks(TM) managed service to ensure enterprise-wide compliance with the mandates of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). ZixAuditor is an assessment service that will audit the organization's email to validate compliance with HIPAA relating to email. ZixPort enables patients, partners, and affiliates secure communications through a Web-based portal. ZixWorks will manage the health system's total e-messaging protection needs through encryption, anti-virus, anti-spam, and content filtering services. ZixWorks also includes a best-in-class HIPAA lexicon and update service that ensures Baptist's ongoing compliance with the HIPAA regulations relating to protected health information (PHI).
"We knew we were nearing the April HIPAA deadline and needed an email security solution that fully met all of our needs, but we also wanted to address spam," said Rick Caldwell, CIO of Baptist. "ZixCorp was the only company that was able to provide everything we were looking for. Since virtually all of our system handles sensitive PHI -- including our physicians, nursing staff, and business office -- the HIPAA lexicon and hosted service of ZixWorks will enable us to freely communicate without worrying about private information accidentally getting through and will prevent us from incurring the risks and costs we would have sustained had we deployed our own solution."
Baptist was recently included for the third time on the nation's "100 Most Wired Hospitals" list compiled by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. The magazine recognizes technically savvy hospitals after assessing how organizations use technology to serve their constituents. Baptist was also one of 12 organizations to receive a 2002 Excellence Award and the Governors Achievement Award through the Mississippi Quality Award program. The Awards are presented for achievements in applying the principles of continuous improvement toward achieving performance excellence.
Daniel S. Nutkis, vice president of strategy and products for ZixCorp, says Baptist's adoption of ZixWorks shows the versatility and effectiveness of the service. "This fully managed and hosted solution is being deployed by companies of all sizes that are seeking a secure email solution to satisfy HIPAA requirements by April 2003. As the deadline gets closer, I believe that we'll see more healthcare organizations turn to ZixWorks for their secure e-messaging needs, because it is an immediate answer to the problem of safeguarding email communications, while also providing all of the additional services that organizations need, such as anti-virus, anti-spam, content filtering, and archiving, in a very efficient manner at a cost-effective price," said Nutkis.
Nutkis continued, "We are also pleased to be working with our partner, Venture Technologies, Inc., who understands the benefits of offering its customers a fully managed service like ZixWorks. ZixWorks provides companies greater expertise than any company could develop on its own, including the dedicated resources of the ZixResearch Center(TM) and a world-class data center managed and monitored around the clock. ZixWorks shifts to ZixCorp the burden of ensuring that email compliance and protection solutions are never out of date."
Baptist's purchase of ZixCorp services was conducted through Venture Technologies, Inc. of Ridgeland, Miss. "ZixCorp's quality email protection services are really best-of-breed offerings," said Gerard Gibert, president and co-owner of Venture. "We've found that once our customers compare ZixCorp services to other similar solutions, ZixCorp sells itself. We're proud to be part of the ZixCorp team."
