Colorado State University Engineering Volunteers Request Use of
Primavera(R) Project Management Solutions
Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity, Inc. will be building homes for low-income families faster and more efficiently using project management software from Primavera Systems. The largest provider of project management software for the construction industry, Primavera recently donated several software licenses for the affiliate's construction projects.
Fort Collins Habitat will use the scheduling and project control capabilities provided by the software to schedule construction on several homes simultaneously. Habitat construction manager, volunteers, local Colorado State University construction management students, and construction committee personnel will coordinate all scheduling, design and construction efforts using the Primavera project management solutions. "As we build more homes, we will utilize this software to help us plan more efficiently and track a home's progress," said Candace Mayo, Executive Director.
Led by Habitat for Humanity Construction Committee Chairperson Don Tiller and another board member, David Gunderson, an assistant professor in CSU's construction management program, the Fort Collins Habitat is working closely with Colorado State University's construction management and engineering students for help in managing all aspects of the projects. "The students presently participating in the builds indicated to our construction committee that Primavera software was their project management solution of choice," said Tiller.
"We are very grateful for the generous donation of Primavera software," said Mayo. "The software will enable us to best utilize the talents of the construction management students at Colorado State University who routinely use Primavera project management software and will be assisting us in its implementation. It will also enable the students to have a real-life application for their learning."
This year marks the largest number of homes produced in the Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity's history, having grown from building one home per year in 2000, to more than five in 2003.
"The finest volunteer efforts combined with the best project management solutions available will bring Habitat's projects to completion through more productive team collaboration. We are proud to support such a deserving cause like Habitat for Humanity," said Joel M. Koppelman, CEO of Primavera Systems, Inc.
About Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by a Georgia businessman who believes that everyone deserves a decent place to live. Home ownership opens doors to a new life. That's why Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity creates partnerships with low-income working families to build new homes at no profit with a zero percent mortgage. Since then 120,000 Habitat homes have been built throughout the U.S. and the world. The Fort Collins chapter built its first house in 1993, and has constructed more than 23 homes. Habitat homes are built thanks to a tremendous effort by community volunteers. More than 1,500 people in Fort Collins have given their time to help with everything from fundraising to putting in the kitchen sink!
