Unique Outbound Option for Network Based Internet Gateway
Optimizes Internet Connectivity for Global VPNs
Equant (NYSE: ENT) (Euronext Paris: EQU), a recognized industry leader in global data and IP services for multinational businesses, has again expanded its VPN features set with a new option for secure corporate access to the public Internet.
Equant Network Based Internet Gateway - now available in 110 countries for Equant IP VPN and LAN Access customers - provides a cost-effective alternative to customer-based Internet gateway solutions. Four major enterprises are already using the service, including the world's largest automotive manufacturing company. Equant Network Based Internet Gateway provides cost and management benefits by eliminating the need for firewalls and other security infrastructure on customer premise equipment (CPE). The security infrastructure, based on industry-leading technology from Checkpoint and Cosine, resides on the Equant VPN network and is managed around the clock by Equant experts, with real-time performance reports for the customer.
"All multinational companies need an effective means of accessing the public Internet without exposing their systems to undue risk," said Arjen Maarleveld, Equant's president of Products. "Our Network Based Internet Gateway service uniquely combines our industry-leading IP, data and security services to help our customers fulfill their critical Internet access requirements. We are proud to offer our customers this new VPN feature in addition to several others we have announced recently, including Video for IP VPN, Modular VPN and DSL Access."
Equant is the only global provider to offer its customers two Network Based Internet Gateway configurations: Premium and Basic Outbound.
Network Based Internet Gateway Premium is a bi-directional Internet service with the following benefits:
-- It provides an ideal service for larger sites where both inbound and outbound Internet access are required. -- It offers a fully customizable security policy with highly granular control and management of connections to and from the Internet. -- When used in conjunction with Equant IPSec, it provides securely managed connections into a VPN by remote Internet users - employees and partners - who need to access critical business systems such as order tracking.
Network Based Internet Gateway Basic Outbound allows Internet connections only from within the customer VPN out to the Internet with the following benefits:
-- Provides a safe and reliable environment for corporate users
at smaller sites to access the Internet without being routed
via central corporate firewalls.
-- As an option, customers without an external mail server can
add a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol relay function to receive
Internet mail.
-- Conducts protocol filtering in hardware using advanced
multi-gigabit processors delivering low latency and responsive
access to the Internet, enabling users to work more
efficiently.
Network Based Internet Gateway customers receive near-real time statistics, as well as hourly, daily, weekly and monthly statistics detailing utilization of Internet traffic. These reports enable them to plan capacity for optimum performance and to effectively manage their costs. The reports are accessed online through Equant's Web-based customer service portal, WebVision, along with comprehensive service quality and performance information on their other Equant services.
