AVON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2003

As the 2003 prom season rolls in, high school students across North America will be thinking about dresses, corsages, cummerbunds and duct tape. For one lucky couple, attending prom "ducked" out in creative duct tape formalwear could result in both a memorable and profitable experience.

By adorning themselves in stylishly "sticky" fashions, high school students will be eligible to participate in the third annual Duck(R) brand Stuck at Prom(TM) contest, with the chance to win $2,500 each for college.

Aside from relaxing the strain on budgets, duct tape ensembles allow students to be creative and original with their prom attire. And, because Duck(R) brand duct tape is available in 17 colors other than the standard silver/gray, students can be as clever and creative as they want.

WHAT

The Duck(R) brand Stuck at Prom(TM) contest, sponsored by Henkel Consumer Adhesives, Inc., will award students for their creativity and originality in creating or accessorizing prom formalwear with duct tape. The first place winners will receive a $2,500 college scholarship each and $2,500 for the high school hosting the prom. The second place winners will each receive a $1,000 college scholarship, with the high school receiving $1,000. The third place couple will each win a $500 college scholarship, and the high school will receive $500. A limited number of honorable mention winners will receive a Duck Tape Sportswear package.

HOW TO ENTER

For a registration form and official contest rules, or to view previous years' entries, interested students should go to www.ducktapeclub.com. The 2003 Stuck at Prom contest starts on March 3, 2003. Contest participants are required to submit a completed entry form and a photo of themselves wearing their duct tape prom formalwear. Photos and entries must be received by June 13, 2003.

The winners of the contest will be judged based on a number of criteria, including originality, workmanship, quantity of duct tape used, use of colors, and creative use of accessories. The winners will be selected by a panel of judges, including Jim & Tim, The Duct Tape Guys, and Todd Scott, world-famous duct tape sculptor. The panel of judges will announce their decisions on July 9, 2003. Winners will be notified soon thereafter, and their names will be posted on the Web site.

Duck brand duct tape is sold nationally at such retailers as Ace Hardware, TrueValue, Lowe's and Wal-Mart. Duck Tape is available in more than 18 colors and patterns, including camouflage, X-Factor(TM) colors (fluorescent green, pink, orange and yellow), standard silver/gray, and an assortment of other solid colors such as red, yellow, black and blue. 2002 WINNERS

In its second year, 572 couples from 50 states and Canada participated in the 2002 Stuck at Prom contest. The winners, Mike Mace and Emily Ewald of Rochelle, IL, attended the Rochelle Township High School prom dressed in Duck Tape as 16th Century English nobles.

Ewald fashioned a red and yellow duct tape gown with a red cape, while Mace was adorned in black knickers and vest with matching red and yellow puffed sleeve jacket and cap. All of their very regal garments were made from duct tape.

Mace and Ewald enrolled their moms and grandma to help make the duct tape English Tudor style formalwear. In all, it took 35 rolls of yellow, black, white, and red duct tape and 50 hours of work to create the majestic duct tape duds. In the end, there was little they did not know about duct tape. From seams and ruffles to gussets and folds, they now know how to do it with duct tape.

Ewald and Mace said everyone attending their prom was really impressed by their outfits. "The reaction was just crazy!" said Ewald. "As we filed into the gym, we received the closest thing to a standing ovation."

"We were the last ones to come in," Mace added, "and everyone said the applause was about ten times louder for us than any other couple."

Henkel Consumer Adhesives, Inc., formerly Manco, develops and markets a broad array of imaginative products for the home, school and office under the Duck(R) and Loctite(R) brands.
