SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2003
MarketWatch.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:MKTW), a leading multimedia source of financial news and information, announced today that David Callaway, 39, has been named Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of CBS MarketWatch, the Company's award-winning news organization delivering content over the Internet, radio and television. Callaway has been Executive Editor of the news service for the past three years. In addition to directing news coverage, Callaway writes a weekly column for CBS MarketWatch, and makes occasional appearances on San Francisco's Channel 5 local television news as well as on radio stations around the country.
Callaway replaces Thom Calandra, 46, who moves into a new role as CBS MarketWatch's Chief Commentator with the recent launch of "The Calandra Report," a new subscription service available on the Company's flagship business news Web site, CBS.MarketWatch.com. Calandra does regular commentary for the nationally syndicated TV show CBS MarketWatch Weekend and for more than 225 radio stations on the MarketWatch.com Radio Network. Calandra is the founding editor of CBS MarketWatch and MarketWatch.com.
"MarketWatch.com owes much of its success to these two terrific journalists. I'm pleased that we have the talent and leadership already in house to help take this company to the next level," said Chairman & CEO Larry Kramer. "Thom was our founding editor, defining the form of journalism that built our audience of more than 10 million people a month, and he is the best commentator to drive our very first home-grown subscription product. And Dave is a seasoned editor who can step into the role of Editor-in-Chief without missing a beat."
Calandra's popular "StockWatch" column, the longest running commentary on the five-year-old Web site, has been the most popular commentary for the site's more than 10 million monthly visitors. His free e-mail version of that column, launched last year, has attracted several hundred thousand subscribers and has provided a building block for MarketWatch.com's new subscription strategy.
The CBS MarketWatch news service also appears on dozens of other Web sites, including various AOL Time Warner properties, Yahoo!, NYTimes.com, and Knight Ridder Digital. MarketWatch.com is headquartered in San Francisco, with bureaus in New York, Washington, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Tokyo and London.
