HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2003

Hostages in Iran, U.S. Hockey team beats the Russians at Lake Placid, Ronald Reagan wins the New Hampshire primary, and Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band release Against The Wind; that was February 1980.

On June 24, 2003, Capitol Records will reissue a new digitally remastered version of Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band's classic album, Against The Wind. It contains many hits including "Against The Wind," "Her Strut," "Horizontal Bop," "Fire Lake," "Betty Lou's Gettin' Out Tonight" and "You'll Accomp'ny Me."

By the time Against The Wind was released in February 1980, Bob Seger had already become one of the most successful artists of his time. He had struggled through the late sixties and early seventies with multiple album releases and relentless touring before becoming an "overnight" success with the release of his 10th album, the semi-autobiographical Night Moves. Seger rode this "sudden" success on the strength of a string of classic songs from that album including "Night Moves," "Rock And Roll Never Forgets," "Mainstreet" and "The Fire Down Below" and from his follow-up album, Stranger In Town, which produced classics such as "We've Got Tonight," "Hollywood Nights," "Still The Same" and "Old Time Rock And Roll." The anticipation and expectations for Seger's twelfth album were extremely high.

To help meet this challenge, Seger tapped Bill Szymczyk, famed producer of The Eagles, along with The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section to produce what would become his most successful studio album. Seger had written dozens of songs for the album, which was originally set to be titled "No Man's Land," but in the final sessions wrote three additional songs, "Against The Wind," "Her Strut" and "You'll Accomp'ny Me," which ultimately found their way onto radio playlists across the country and touched the hearts and minds of people all over the world. "Her Strut," written about Jane Fonda, became a #1 AOR track of the year while hits such as "Against The Wind," "You'll Accomp'ny Me" and "Fire Lake" crossed over to multiple radio formats including AOR, Top 40, Adult Contemporary and Country.

Glen Frey, Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit contributed vocals to "Fire Lake" and "Against The Wind." Seger returned the favor when he collaborated with them that year on their #1 single "Heartache Tonight." Frey, who is also from Detroit, contributed vocals on Seger's first hit record, "Rambin' Gamblin' Man" (1968). In support of Against The Wind, Seger embarked on a nine month world tour, his first of only two tours that took him outside of the U.S. and Canada. The album earned Seger a Grammy. Against The Wind was Seger's third consecutive quintuple platinum studio album, yet it was his first and only album to reach the summit of Billboard's Top Current Albums chart.
