LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2003

The Net Proceeds from Santana's Entire Summer 2003 U.S. Shaman Tour

Will Benefit Artists for a New South Africa's Amandla Aids Fund

June 5 event, at 10AM at CAA in Beverly Hills, CA, will also

include participation by Alfre Woodard, CCH Pounder,

Robert Guillaume, Blair Underwood, Antonio "LA" Reid

And other noted ANSA supporters

In response to the catastrophic AIDS pandemic in Africa, Carlos and Deborah Santana are donating the entire net proceeds from Santana's summer 2003 U.S. Shaman Tour - running from June 13 to July 14 - to benefit Artists For A New South Africa's (ANSA) Amandla Aids Fund supporting South African organizations battling AIDS on the frontlines.

The initiative will also educate people about the crisis as well as announcing ANSA's call to action to the South African government.

This marks the first time an artist has donated the entire net proceeds from an extended concert tour to charity. Each stop on the Shaman Tour itinerary will have tables with information on ANSA and AIDS, and in some cities, noted ANSA artists will speak to the audience from the stage. In Mansfield, MA on June 25 and Los Angeles, CA on July 14, there will be Golden Circle fundraisers, offering VIP tickets and receptions with the performers. For more information on the Massachusetts event, call 617.482.1317, and for L.A., call 310.204.1748.

The Santana/ANSA initiative will be presented in detail at a June 5, 10AM press conference at Creative Artists Agency in Beverly Hills, CA. In support of this historic call to action, 1984 Nobel Peace Prize recipient and South African Archbishop Emeritus Desmond M. Tutu will make a special trip to Los Angeles to participate. The Santanas hope that this event and their partnership with ANSA will spur increased global attention on and humanitarian response to the escalating African AIDS crisis. ANSA Founders, Board Members, supporters and others expected to take part on June 5 are: Alfre Woodard, CCH Pounder, Blair Underwood, Alexandra Paul, Robert Guillaume (who lost a son to AIDS), Donna Brown Guillaume, Arista President and CEO Antonio "LA" Reid, CAA Managing Partner Rob Light, and ANSA Board President and Executive Director Sharon Gelman.

The public can support this effort by purchasing tickets for the summer 2003 U.S. Shaman Tour, donating directly to ANSA, and logging on to www.ansfrica.org or calling 1.877.4AFRICA for information on how to:

-- Take action on AIDS in South Africa.

-- Advocate globally.

-- Volunteer locally.

-- Learn about HIV/AIDS.

-- Protect themselves and others from HIV infection.

Materials distributed throughout the summer '03 Shaman Tour will spell out ways to get involved, and direct people to resources and organizations through which they can help. Carlos and Deborah Santana and ANSA invite all interested individuals, artists, companies and foundations to join them in this ongoing and essential work.

Founded in 1989 to support South Africa's quest for freedom, ANSA is a non-profit organization of artists and others now working to combat the African AIDS pandemic, advance democracy and equality in South Africa, and further civil rights and voter participation in the U.S. Every ten seconds, another person somewhere in the world dies of AIDS. Currently, there are over 42 million people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide--29 million of them in sub-Saharan Africa. South Africa, home to more of these individuals (5 million +) than any other country, is the very epicenter of the pandemic. Each day, 1,600 South Africans become newly infected, and 600 more lose their lives from AIDS-related illnesses.

With Carlos and Deborah Santana's support, ANSA's Amandla AIDS Fund was created to provide urgently needed support to effective South African HIV/AIDS organizations. Grants will focus on: provisions of life-saving medicines for those living with HIV/AIDS; care for children orphaned by AIDS; pivotal advocacy; prevention of new infections through grassroots education and peer programs; destigmatization and empowerment of people living with AIDS; and mitigation of the social and economic impact of AIDS.

In Zulu, Xhosa, and other South African languages, Amandla means strength and power, and is used as a call for empowerment for the people. In that spirit, Carlos and Deborah Santana invite you to join them and take action in the global fight against AIDS. For more information, visit www.santana.com and www.ansafrica.org.
