SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2003
Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Northern California (HBSA/NC) recognized Siebel Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SEBL) with the 25th annual Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award on May 29, 2003, at the Hotel Sofitel in Redwood City, Calif.
The Harvard Business School Alumni Association awarded Siebel Systems as the Entrepreneurial Company of the Year for founding one of the most successful software companies in history and pioneering the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) market, the largest segment of the enterprise applications space. In its tenth anniversary, Siebel Systems has become the undisputed leader in Customer Relationship Management with installations at more than 3,500 leading companies worldwide. Today Siebel Systems is the largest enterprise applications software company in the United States, and the second-largest in the world.
For 25 years, HBSA/NC has presented the Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award annually to recognize entrepreneurship and to honor successful ventures, their key executives, and principal advisors. Honorees must have entrepreneurial roots, lasting presence, and have demonstrated exceptional management through periods of rapid growth. Award recipients from prior years include Cisco Systems, Oracle Corporation, and The Charles Schwab Corporation.
"Siebel Systems' rise to become the world's leading provider of customer relationship management (CRM) applications embodies the innovation, business vision, and sound management practices which are so highly valued by the association and its members," said Fred Wang, Co-Chair of the HBSA/NC Entrepreneurial Award Dinner. "In keeping with this award's long-standing tradition, Siebel Systems' creation of a highly successful new business venture with demonstrated 'staying power' has had a considerable impact in the Bay Area community and worldwide."
HBSA/NC also credited Siebel Systems' successful management of the company through periods of tremendous growth, its focus on building a company with lasting values, and the Siebel corporate culture's unwavering focus on customer satisfaction. These achievements have translated into shareholder benefits -- Siebel Systems' stock has returned roughly 790 percent to its public shareholders since the company's IPO in 1996, generating $4.6 billion in market capitalization.
At the award ceremony, Thomas M. Siebel, Chairman and CEO of Siebel Systems outlined the cornerstones of the company's success and led a panel discussion with key members of the executive team that helped build the company, including David Schmaier, Executive Vice President; Ed Abbo, Senior Vice President, Technology and CTO; and Steve Mankoff, Senior Vice President, Technical Services.
"It is an incredible honor to be recognized by this distinguished group of business leaders," said Mr. Siebel. "Throughout our ten-year history, Siebel Systems has experienced remarkable growth, and through dramatic economic changes, the company has kept a steadfast focus on its core values of customer satisfaction, professional courtesy, professionalism, and goal and action orientation. These values have endured and will carry us into the future."
