BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 2003
Washington Group International, Inc. (Nasdaq:WGII) and Framatome ANP announced today that their SGT Ltd. joint venture has received a contract to provide engineering and construction services for the replacement of steam generators and a reactor vessel closure head at Entergy's nuclear power plant, Arkansas Nuclear One unit 1 near Russellville, Arkansas.
"SGT is already recognized as a leader in the complex, highly technical job of replacing steam generators and other large critical components in existing nuclear power plants," said Stephen G. Hanks, Washington Group president and chief executive officer. "This new award reinforces the leading position SGT has in the nuclear power industry in major component-replacement services. Entergy is one of our long-term nuclear industry clients and we welcome this opportunity to again support its excellent record of nuclear power operations and maintenance."
The components will be supplied by Framatome ANP and replaced during a scheduled outage at the plant. The SGT work scope includes heavy haul of the components at the plant site, creating a temporary opening in the reactor containment building, and closing the opening once the retired equipment is removed and the replacements components are installed. The SGT joint venture currently is one of only two companies providing such services in the United States.
"We possess a unique professional competency in this critical aspect of safe nuclear plant life extension, replacing huge and heavy components that weren't originally designed to be replaced," said Hanks.
