TippingPoint Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:TPTI), the leaders in high-speed intrusion prevention, today announced the University of Dayton, a TippingPoint customer, was recognized as a technological leader and awarded with the 'InfoWorld 100' for its advancements made through implementing TippingPoint's UnityOne(tm) Intrusion Prevention Appliances.
The InfoWorld 100 is awarded by IDG's InfoWorld Media Group to recognize the top 100 organizations making the best use of emerging technologies to enhance their business. Chosen as an outstanding example of enterprise innovation and leadership, the University of Dayton has blocked over one million cyber threats each month by implementing the UnityOne Intrusion Prevention Appliance in early 2003. The UnityOne also provided the university with protection from major cyber worm and virus outbreaks including Slammer, MSBlast, Welchia and Sobig.
"The InfoWorld 100 recognizes companies like University of Dayton that made the best use of technology to enhance their businesses," stated Steve Fox, editor-in-chief of InfoWorld. "TippingPoint Technologies built an innovative intrusion prevention system to meet critical technical and business objectives."
In addition to providing security, the UnityOne also helped the university increase their bandwidth availability and reduce their legal risk from the file sharing of music and video files. After blocking peer-to-peer traffic uni-directionally with the UnityOne, bandwidth consumption dropped from a peak of 30 Mbps to a low of 17 Mbps within the first 30 minutes, giving a 43 percent increase in bandwidth availability.
Thomas Danford, associate provost and chief information officer at the University of Dayton, said, "I am honored to accept this award, which would not have been possible without the technology made available by TippingPoint Technologies. The UnityOne Intrusion Prevention Systems and Appliances are unrivaled in their ability to provide complete network protection from imminent cyber threats."
Representatives from the University of Dayton and TippingPoint Technologies will present a joint case study session depicting return on investment at the Syllabus educational technology conference in Boston on Dec. 9, 2003.
