Eliot Spitzer and John Bogle Keynote Speakers at NYSSA's Corporate Governance Conference

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2003

The New York Society of Security Analysts will present "Corporate Governance as an Investment Strategy and Analyst's Tool" on November 21, 2003. New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and Vanguard Group Founder John Bogle will be keynote speakers at the conference, which will assess governance practices at public corporations and how they affect the underlying value of a firm's equity. As issues surrounding corporate governance continue to make headlines, this timely conference will focus on why corporate governance matters to investment managers, portfolio managers and analysts and how it fits into a sound investment strategy. Bogle will give perspectives on corporate governance, and Spitzer will discuss analysts' responsibilities, SROs and working to improve governance.

Topics to be discussed include why corporate governance should matter to investment managers and analysts, corporate governance as a portfolio manager's tool, where corporate governance fits in an investment strategy, and the function and objectivity of corporate governance ratings services.

Speakers include Peter Clapman, senior vice president and chief counsel, TIAA-CREF; Nell Minow, editor, The Corporate Library; Sarah Teslik, executive director, The Council of Institutional Investors; Warren Lichtenstein, managing partner, Steel Partners II LP; Mario Gabelli, CEO and chairman, Gabelli Asset Management; Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woodland Jr. Chair in Corporate Governance, University of Delaware; and John Coffee, Adolf A. Berle Professor of Law, Columbia Law School. The conference will be chaired by Kurt Schacht, COO and general counsel, Wyser-Pratte.
