MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2003
Mobile Digital Media (MDM), the world's largest publisher of plug-and-play consumer software for PDAs and smartphones on expansion media, announced today that Merriam-Webster(R) Crossword Puzzles & Word Challenges, for Palm OS and Microsoft Windows Mobile / Pocket PC, will be on retail shelves in October, in time for the holiday season.
"Word-based games are ideal entertainment for Palm and Pocket PC users," said Kurt Baumberger, co-founder and chief marketing officer of MDM. "Our research shows that PDA owners, many of whom are well-educated professionals, are looking for interesting and challenging word games," he added. "Merriam-Webster Crossword Puzzles & Word Challenges delivers with a thousand great crossword puzzles and three of the most popular word games available today for PDAs."
MDM partnered with JAMDAT Mobile, a global leader in wireless entertainment, to provide a spellbinding crossword game with three levels of difficulty, hundreds of different puzzles, in-game hints and post-game commentary. This built-in player flexibility makes the crossword puzzles easy enough for novices, but difficult for even the most sophisticated crossword fanatic.
MDM also worked with mobile software leaders Astraware and GameHouse to add three more taxing text challenges. TextTwist(TM) tests a player's ability to create as many words as possible from six scrambled letters. Link Letter taps a player's creative skills to change a single letter to make a new word, and then change another letter to make another word. Only the cleverest player will be able to create new words from random letters and avoid a special word that can wipe them out in "WHATword(TM)."
Merriam-Webster Crossword Puzzles & Word Challenges is compatible with all Palm OS and Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC 2002 and higher devices with SD/MultiMediaCard expansion slots. Suggested retail price is $29.95.
