DAVIS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 2004
For the ninth consecutive year, the UC Davis Graduate School of Management has been ranked among the top business schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
The U.S. News & World Report survey, released today, places the UC Davis MBA program 14th among business schools at public universities and 29th overall, up from 35th last year.
The Graduate School of Management continues to be the youngest business school within a public institution ever ranked by the magazine. With 122 full-time MBA students, it is the smallest of the three Northern California business schools in the top 30.
"Rankings are not the best measure of educational quality, but our consistent placement with other good schools in California and the nation is great company to be in," said Dean Nicole Woolsey Biggart, a founding faculty member of the Graduate School of Management and holder of the Jerome J. and Elsie Suran Chair in Technology Management.
Larry Welch, vice president of procurement for Hewlett-Packard Co. in Roseville and a member of the Dean's Advisory Council, called the UC Davis program's showing a "pure academic recognition that it's a top-flight school, and getting better each year."
The school's reputation for challenging students to think creatively and strategically in a collaborative learning environment is enhanced by a 10-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio -- one of the best in the nation.
As a result of U.S. News & World Report's 2005 survey, UC Davis continues to have four professional schools ranked in the top 40 nationwide -- Business plus Engineering, Medicine and Law. The Graduate School of Management offers dual-degree programs with these other top-ranked schools.
The magazine bases its rankings on a range of criteria, including grade point averages and test scores of accepted applicants, the relative number of students accepted, success in placing graduates, and assessments of schools by business school deans and corporate recruiters.
