LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 2004
-On Saturday, May 8, hosts Courtney Thorne-Smith and Jim Belushi, along with Revlon spokeswomen Jamie King and Karen Duffy will join an expected 50,000 participants, for the eleventh annual Revlon Run/Walk For Women. Presented by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), the Run/Walk raises critical funds to support women's cancer research, counseling and outreach programs in the Los Angeles area and nationwide.
Co-chaired by Ellen Barkin and Ronald O. Perelman and Lilly Tartikoff, the Revlon Run/Walk for Women continues to garner tremendous support not only in Los Angeles, but also from residents throughout Southern California. Among the largest 5K events in the nation, the Revlon Run/Walks in New York and Los Angeles have raised approximately $30 million in funds since first launching in L.A. eleven years ago.
"Through their involvement in the Revlon Run/Walk, the Los Angeles community is making a continuing impact in the fight against women's cancers," says Ronald O. Perelman, chairman of Revlon, Inc., co-founder of the Run/Walk and co-founder of the Revlon/UCLA Women's Cancer Research Program. "Historic advances in cancer treatment have been possible because of the increased resources made available by Revlon and the participants in the Run/Walk."
Proceeds from past Revlon Run/Walks have funded research contributing to the development of important new therapies, such as Herceptin(R), the first in the wave of new targeted cancer treatments. Funds have also helped numerous organizations in providing education, advocacy and outreach services to those affected by women's cancers.
Los Angeles area beneficiaries for 2004 include: Revlon/UCLA Women's Cancer Research Program, National Women's Cancer Research Alliance (NWCRA), Wellness Community, W.I.N. - Against Breast Cancer, USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital Breast & Ovarian Cancer Program, The UCLA Digital Mammography Program, T.H.E. (To Help Everyone) Clinic, Inc., Los Angeles Breast Cancer Alliance, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Women of Color Breast Cancer Survivors Support Project, Team Survivor Los Angeles, Providence Saint Joseph Foundation Art of Healing - Women's Health, Pacific Asian Language Services (PALS) for Health, Gilda Radner Ovarian and Breast Cancer Detection Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, John Wayne Cancer Institute and weSPARK Cancer Support Center.
"Each year we are moved and inspired by the outpouring of support. The fight is far from over and the monies raised this year will be invaluable to the continued research for a cure," adds Lilly Tartikoff, event co-founder and co-founder of the Revlon/UCLA Women's Cancer Research Program.
The Revlon Run/Walk For Women in Los Angeles was created in 1993 through the combined efforts of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, Lilly Tartikoff, Ronald O. Perelman and The Davis Group. "From the beginning, the entertainment community has shown enormous support in helping raise the funds crucial for research and awareness to help women," states Lisa Paulsen, CEO of the Entertainment Industry Foundation. "It has been a pleasure to witness the tremendous growth of this event over the past eleven years to now incorporate both Los Angeles and New York."
As the philanthropic heart of the entertainment industry, the Entertainment Industry Foundation has distributed hundreds of millions of dollars -- and provided countless volunteer hours -- to support charitable initiatives addressing some of the most critical issues facing society today.
