OHDELA, managed by White Hat Management, is designed to enhance the distance learning experience for kindergarten through 12th grade. This current school year, OHDELA is educating close to 2,200 students in Ohio - with an expected 3,000 students for the next school year - who prefer an online charter school experience instead of the traditional classroom experience. Typical OHDELA students include non-traditional students who thrive in a classroom setting with more freedom, students with special learning needs who thrive on increased one-on-one teaching that is more readily available with online charter schools and students with special medical needs who might be out of school for long periods due to chronic medical problems or illnesses or have special medical needs that would disrupt the classroom setting.
LearnLinc provides OHDELA with enhanced collaboration and sophisticated classroom management that is easy to use for both students and teachers; teachers typically learn the system within 30 minutes. Integrated within the school's larger learning management system and incorporated into each student's homepage, LearnLinc gives OHDELA teachers the ability to interact with students on a one-to-one basis with personalized instruction.
"Students and teachers love the LearnLinc program," said Mark Thimmig, chief executive officer and president of White Hat Ventures, LLC, the parent company of educational businesses, including White Hat Management and OHDELA. "We now have 250 students in Ohio who are using the system, and we see LearnLinc as a potent tool for improving grades and retention rates, helping improve the online learning experience for students.
"We are continuing to include LearnLinc in our OHDELA programs for students who work better in an online classroom, and we will have 800 students using LearnLinc in the next school year, as well as expanding the program to Pennsylvania," added Thimmig.
"We are excited to have LearnLinc as part of the OHDELA program," said Dr. James Powers, chief executive officer and president of iLinc Communications, Inc. "By providing LearnLinc through a special arrangement to White Hat, we were able to work with OHDELA to bring LearnLinc into their learning management system, making home schooling an easier, more productive and enjoyable experience for students, parents and teachers."
For OHDELA, LearnLinc replicates the classroom learning environment, creating one that is student-centered, enjoyable and results-oriented so there is a sense of spirit and camaraderie among the students.
